Product description

A plastic bottle in the shape of a medicine bottle with a volume of 500 ml and a lever sprayer is a ready-made combination of container and closure for liquid preparations applied over a larger surface area or in larger quantities. The brown PET reduces light transmission and thus better protects light-sensitive contents such as hydrolates, herbal extracts, or water-alcohol mixtures with essential oils. The bottle is lightweight and shatter-resistant, making it suitable for everyday use at home, in a workshop, or in a salon.

A lever sprayer delivers a more generous dose per press than a fine mechanical atomiser, so it is designed more for surface application than for fine facial misting. The intended uses reflect this: fabric and room fresheners, hair sprays for detangling, body and hair hydrolate sprays in larger formats, alcohol sprays for surfaces, household cleaning products, polishes, or plant sprays.

The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle alone holds a food contact certificate; the sprayer does not. The set is therefore intended for cosmetics and household preparations, not for packaging food.

Why choose this set

  • Light protection – the brown tint of PET limits light transmission to the contents, slowing changes in scent and colour in preparations with plant-based ingredients and essential oils.
  • Lightweight and shatter-resistant bottle – PET is considerably lighter than glass and will not shatter if dropped, which is useful for sprays that are frequently carried or used with wet hands.
  • Generous dose – the lever mechanism draws contents through a dip tube from the bottom of the bottle and delivers approximately 0.75 ml per press, quickly covering even a larger surface area.
  • Matching neck – the bottle and sprayer share the same neck type, the closure tightens without adapters, and the set is ready to fill.
  • Volume for higher consumption – 500 ml is sufficient for preparations used daily, such as a fabric freshener or a surface spray.

Suitable for products such as

The set is suited to low-viscosity aqueous and water-alcohol preparations that pass through the dip tube and nozzle without resistance: hydrolate and herbal body and hair sprays, leave-in detangling sprays, fabric fresheners with a fragrance composition solubilised in water, alcohol sprays for surfaces and equipment, vinegar or soap household cleaners, or plant treatment solutions.

Less suitable are thick emulsions, gels, and preparations containing solid particles (exfoliating beads, undissolved powders). The sprayer will either fail to dispense these or the nozzle will gradually clog. Pure vegetable oils are difficult to spray and the output is more of a stream than a mist, so for oil-based sprays we recommend testing with the specific formulation.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is designed for normal filling, and this is what the 500 ml label refers to. The total volume up to the rim is the physical capacity of the bottle up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference provides a reserve for the sprayer dip tube, for the air above the liquid, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. If overfilled, the contents will be pushed out through the neck when the sprayer is screwed on, and the dip tube will not seat properly.

Filling and working with the sprayer

Before screwing on the sprayer, check the dip tube length. It should reach the bottom of the bottle to draw up even the last traces of the contents, but should not bend at the bottom. The dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle, so trim it with an angled cut. After screwing on the sprayer, press it several times with no liquid until the tube is primed and it begins to spray evenly.

Before filling a larger batch, run a test with one bottle: fill it to the nominal volume, tighten the sprayer, and leave it lying on its side on absorbent paper for several hours. This will reveal any leaks or incompatibility of the contents before you fill the entire batch.

Pour the preparation into the bottle cooled down. PET is not designed for hot filling; at high temperatures it changes shape and the thread can also deform. For aqueous preparations, do not forget to include a preservative — the packaging itself will not prevent microbial growth.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – rinse the bottle with clean water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave to dry completely neck down. Pump clean water through the sprayer and leave it to drip dry.
  • Repeated use – the set tolerates repeated filling. After emptying, wash it, pump water through the sprayer, and leave both parts to dry before refilling. Do not disassemble the nozzle; any residual fragrance can be removed by pumping through warm water.
  • Content compatibility – PET handles water, alcohol, hydrolates, and common surfactant solutions well. With a high proportion of essential oils, strong solvents, or aggressive cleaning chemicals, test the packaging behaviour with the specific formulation; otherwise the plastic may turn matt or soften.
  • Labelling – the cylindrical body of the bottle labels well with a flat self-adhesive label.
  • Other closures – if you wish to use the bottle with a different closure, closures and ready-made sets with the same neck type are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal and dosing.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET, the sprayer of PP and polyethylene. Both parts belong in plastic waste after emptying, ideally separated.

Do not fill the set with hot contents or preparations containing solid particles. Hot contents deform PET; particles clog the nozzle and the sprayer will then dispense unevenly or stop working.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown 500 ml plastic bottle with lever sprayer protect the contents from light?
Yes, the brown tint of PET limits light transmission to the contents, making it suitable for preparations with hydrolates, plant extracts, or essential oils, which change scent and colour more rapidly when exposed to light. However, it is not a complete barrier, so it is still advisable to store the filled bottle out of direct sunlight.
Can the 500 ml plastic bottle with lever sprayer be used for an oil spray?
Partially. The lever sprayer is designed for aqueous and water-alcohol liquids; pure vegetable oil is dispensed more as a stream than a fine mist, placing greater strain on the mechanism. Try lightweight oil blends with low viscosity on a single bottle first; for thick oils, opt for a bottle with a dropper or another dispensing closure instead.
How much does the 500 ml plastic bottle with lever sprayer hold, and how full should it be filled?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 500 ml, not to the rim. The total capacity up to the neck is larger, but the difference serves as a reserve for the sprayer dip tube, the air above the liquid, and expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If overfilled, the contents will be pushed out when the sprayer is screwed on.
Is the 500 ml plastic bottle with lever sprayer suitable for food?
Not as a set. The bottle alone holds a food contact certificate; the sprayer does not, so the set as a whole is declared for cosmetics and household preparations. Do not use the set with the sprayer for packaging food.
How to clean the 500 ml plastic bottle with lever sprayer before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water and a mild detergent, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave to dry neck down. Pump clean water through the sprayer until clear water comes out of the nozzle, and leave it to drip dry. Do not clean PET with boiling water or in a dishwasher — heat will deform it.
Why does the lever sprayer on the 500 ml bottle not spray at first?
After being fitted for the first time, the dip tube is empty and the sprayer must prime it first. Simply press the lever several times with no liquid until the contents are drawn up and the spray becomes steady. If it still does not spray, check that the dip tube reaches below the liquid surface and is not kinked at the bottom of the bottle.
