Product description

Concentrated serums, essential oil blends and oil elixirs are applied drop by drop, and light is bad for them. A square amber glass bottle with a volume of 10 ml and a white and gold dropper solves both problems. The dark glass filters light, so the bottle can also be filled with facial serums, active ingredient concentrates or essential oil blends, and the dropper dispenses the contents drop by drop without pouring and without touching the neck.

The straight square shape stands firmly on a shelf and sits well in the hand when dispensing. The bottle and the dropper both have an 18/410 neck finish, the length of the glass tube matches the height of the bottle, and both parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The gold collar with a white bulb gives the bottle a look that suits both retail packaging and your own cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial and oil serums – the small volume and drop-by-drop dispensing match the way concentrated products are applied to the skin.
  • Blends of essential oils and fragrance oils – the dark glass limits the effect of light, and the dropper measures an exact number of drops into a carrier oil or diffuser.
  • Samples and test batches – 10 ml is enough to try out a formulation, check a fragrance or hand a sample to a customer.
  • Oil-based products for nails, lips or eyebrows – precise application of a small amount to a specific spot.

Filling and dispensing

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference provides room for the submerged tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the contents will be pushed out when the dropper is screwed in.

The dropper is operated by squeezing the bulb, immersing the tube in the contents and releasing. When closing, hand-tightening is enough, as overtightening needlessly strains the collar. Thicker oils are drawn up more slowly, so test the number of drops per dose with your specific formulation.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in an anhydrous oil causes cloudiness.

Good to know

Glass does not react with oils, essential oils or alcohol, so the packaging does not change the fragrance or character of the contents. The dropper also contains a silicone bulb and plastic parts. With concentrated essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking whether the bulb changes over time. Water-based products in this packaging need a preservative, because the dropper comes into contact with both the contents and the surroundings every time it is used.

The set can be reused. The bottle withstands regular washing and disinfection with alcohol. The dropper is rinsed by drawing up and expelling a cleaning solution and is then left to air-dry. With sudden temperature changes, for example when filling a hot product into a cold bottle, the glass may crack.

Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations of this bottle are available in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation. For recycling, the bottle belongs with glass. The dropper combines metal, plastic, silicone and glass, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The dropper does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and we do not recommend it for food.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass of the bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass significantly limits the penetration of light, which makes it suitable for oils, serums and essential oils that lose potency or fragrance when exposed to light. It does not provide complete darkness, however. We recommend storing the filled bottle away from direct sunlight, especially with contents that have a high proportion of unsaturated oils.
Why is the bottle with a dropper not filled to the brim?
Once screwed in, the glass tube of the dropper takes up part of the space and the contents would overflow. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml, and the remainder up to the neck provides room for the dropper and for the expansion of the contents in warm conditions. A small funnel or syringe helps during filling, so that the neck stays clean and the dropper seals well.
Is the bottle with a dropper suitable for water-based toners or alcohol tinctures?
Yes, glass is resistant to both water and alcohol, and the dropper draws up thin liquids without any problem. Water-based toners in this packaging need a preservative, because the dropper comes into contact with the contents every time it is used. With tinctures that have a high alcohol content, we recommend checking from time to time that the silicone bulb is still springy and draws up liquid properly.
Can the bottle with a dropper be reused?
Yes, the set is designed for repeated filling. Wash the bottle with warm water and washing-up liquid, disinfect it with alcohol and let it dry. Rinse the dropper several times by drawing up and expelling clean water and alcohol, then leave it to dry with the bulb facing up. Before the next filling, check that the bulb is still springy and draws up liquid properly.
Is the bottle and dropper set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, but the dropper does not. For homemade oils, syrups or infusions, we therefore recommend choosing a different closure for the bottle, one that is declared suitable for food contact.
