Product description
The amber glass bottle with a volume of 10 ml is supplied complete with a plastic dropper insert and a black ribbed safety cap, so you only need to fill it and close it. The dark glass filters light and protects contents that spoil in light: essential oils and their blends, fragrance oils, concentrated oil serums, tinctures, or small samples when you are fine-tuning a formulation. The dropper insert dispenses the contents drop by drop, and the safety mechanism in the cap makes it harder for children to open.
The bottle has a square, straight shape. It stands stably on a shelf, and several pieces can be stored close together in a box or drawer without tipping over.
Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The dropper insert and the cap do not have it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products, for which all three parts are declared suitable.
What the set consists of
- Amber glass – limits the amount of light reaching the contents. After thorough washing, the bottle can be used again.
- PP dropper insert – the clear dropper insert is pressed into the neck of the filled bottle. When tilted, it releases the contents in individual drops, which makes it easier to dose essential oils and concentrates.
- Safety cap – a black ribbed PE closure with an 18/410 neck finish. It does not come loose with ordinary turning.
Filling and dispensing
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference provides a reserve for the dropper insert, which extends into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the dropper insert pushes part of the contents out when you press it in.
First pour in the contents, then press the dropper insert into the neck and finally screw on the cap. The dropper insert works best with liquids of low to medium viscosity. Thick oils and butters drip slowly, so we recommend testing the dispensing before filling a whole batch.
A small funnel helps when filling small volumes. The neck stays clean, the dropper insert then seats better and the cap closes more tightly.
What the set is suitable for
The 10 ml volume corresponds to the usual pack size of essential oils, which is why the set is most often used for them and for their blends, for example for aroma lamps or diffusers. It is equally suitable for fragrance oils, oil serums for the face, treatment oils for nails and cuticles, tinctures or concentrated oil extracts. The safety cap makes sense wherever the contents should not be easily accessible to children, which is appropriate for essential oils and alcohol-based preparations.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the dropper insert and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water should not appear in an oil-based product.
The dropper insert and the cap are made of plastic. With concentrated essential oils, especially citrus ones, and with alcohol solutions with a high alcohol content, we recommend checking how the plastic parts behave with your specific formulation: tightness after several days, and any softening or discolouration of the dropper insert.
Do not pour hot contents into the bottle. The glass may crack with a sudden change of temperature, and both the dropper insert and the cap would be deformed by the heat. Let the contents cool to room temperature before filling.
You can find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of packaging and closure in the Handymade range. If you use your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
When you finish using it, the glass goes into glass recycling, and the dropper insert and the cap are sorted separately as plastic.
The safety cap is tightened until it clicks. Only a fully tightened closure seals properly and the safety mechanism works. When test-opening it, always press it down first and only then turn it.
