Product description

This 5 ml glass bottle with a dropper is designed for small amounts of cosmetics that are dispensed drop by drop: facial serums, concentrated oil blends, essential oils, tinctures, or samples from a larger batch. The amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and helps protect anything that is sensitive to it. At this small volume, the medicine bottle takes up minimal space on a shelf or in a cosmetic bag.

The set is supplied as a ready-made pair of bottle and closure that fit together with no need to match them separately. The dropper in a white and gold finish complements the dark glass, so the set also works as a small gift or retail pack.

How to use the set

The dropper has a glass pipette that reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so even the last few drops can be taken out. Squeezing the bulb pushes air out of the pipette, releasing it draws the contents in, and squeezing it again dispenses them drop by drop. This kind of dispensing suits products where the exact amount matters: concentrated serums, blends of active ingredients in oil, or diluted essential oils for spot application.

The gold cap screws onto the neck of the bottle and holds the dropper in the correct position. The length of the pipette matches the height of this medicine bottle, so there is no need to shorten anything or look for a different size.

Both the bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial serums and oil serums – drop-by-drop dispensing matches the usual consumption of a few drops per use.
  • Essential oils and their blends – the contents come into contact mainly with the glass of the bottle and the glass pipette of the dropper.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – the dropper allows you to count out the drops precisely.
  • Samples and test quantities – 5 ml is enough for a customer to try out a new recipe without filling a larger container.
  • Travel pack – a small, light pack of serum or oil for a few days away from home.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 5 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values leaves room for the pipette of the dropper, which displaces part of the contents upwards when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents will overflow through the thread after the dropper is fitted and the closure may not seal.

When filling oil serums and essential oils, leave free space in the neck even after the dropper is fitted. The pipette takes up more space than it seems at first glance, and the excess would remain on the thread.

Good to know

Before first filling, we recommend washing the bottle and the dropper, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and letting them dry completely. Residual water in the pipette or on the glass wall would get into an anhydrous product, where it is not wanted. With water-based products, you need to rely on the preservative system of the formulation itself, as the packaging does not replace it.

After thorough washing, the bottle can be reused. For the dropper, check that the bulb keeps its shape after washing and draws in the contents as well as before.

The contents come into contact mainly with the glass of the bottle and the glass pipette of the dropper. For concentrated essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking how the bulb and the seal of the dropper behave with your specific formulation over a longer period.

Always screw the dropper back on after use. An open medicine bottle with a narrow neck tips over easily, and with serums containing more expensive active ingredients, losing the contents is noticeable even at 5 ml.

You will find closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, and ready-made bottle and closure combinations, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation. After use, the glass bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper combines glass, aluminium, silicone and plastic, so it is taken apart into individual components before sorting.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 5 ml amber glass medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and thus slows down changes in the contents that light speeds up. It does not provide complete protection, so even an amber bottle should be stored out of direct sunlight. For oils, serums with vitamins or essential oils, dark glass is a better choice than clear glass.
How much liquid fits into a 5 ml bottle with a dropper?
The bottle is designed to be filled to the nominal volume of 5 ml. The total brimful volume is larger and is stated in the parameters, but the difference serves as a reserve for the pipette of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents. If you fill the bottle to the neck, the contents will overflow through the thread after the dropper is fitted.
Is a glass medicine bottle with a dropper suitable for essential oils?
Yes, the contents come into contact mainly with the glass of the bottle and the glass pipette of the dropper. For pure concentrated essential oils, we recommend checking the bulb and the seal of the dropper after some time, as it is best to verify in practice how they behave with a specific oil.
Can the bottle with a dropper be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the dropper can be reused after washing. Wash the glass in warm water with washing-up liquid, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, and let it dry. For the dropper, rinse the pipette as well and check that the bulb draws in liquid as well as before use.
Which closure fits a 5 ml glass medicine bottle?
Closures with the same neck type as stated in the product parameters fit the bottle. This set already includes a dropper with a pipette of the matching length. If you replace it with another closure from the Handymade range, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your formulation.
Is a bottle with a dropper suitable for water-based toners or hydrosols?
It can be used, but drop-by-drop dispensing is less practical with water-based products than with serums and oils, which are dispensed in drops. Water-based contents also require a preservative system in the formulation, as the packaging itself does not protect against microbial growth.
