Product description
Packaging for small quantities of concentrated liquids that are dispensed drop by drop and require protection from light: essential oils, fragrance compositions, active ingredient concentrates, oil serums, or custom formulation samples for customers. The 5 ml amber glass vial is supplied as a complete set with a plastic dropper and a white ribbed cap with a safety lock. Dark glass reduces light exposure and slows changes in sensitive contents, the dropper dispenses precisely, and the cap with safety lock makes accidental opening more difficult.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity and supporting documents are listed with the product. It is not intended for food use.
Why choose this set
- Light protection – amber glass transmits significantly less light than clear glass, which is important for essential oils, fragrance compositions, and active ingredients that degrade or change scent when exposed to light.
- Drop-by-drop dispensing – the dropper sits in the neck and releases the contents one drop at a time, making it easier to measure the ingredient into a formulation with less spillage or evaporation.
- Cap with safety lock – makes accidental and unintentional opening more difficult, which is appreciated when storing and transporting concentrated contents.
- Chemically resistant glass – glass does not react with oils, alcohol, or fragrances and does not absorb odours, so the contents remain clean even with repeated use of the vial.
- Small volume – 5 ml is sufficient for samples, test batches, travel packaging, or expensive raw materials that are purchased and used in small quantities.
Suitable applications for this set
The most typical use is for essential oils and fragrance compositions, where the need for light protection, drop-by-drop dispensing, and secure closure all come together. It also works well for active ingredient concentrates in an oil or alcohol base, for oil serums for the face or cuticles, perfume oils, and tinctures.
The dropper works best with low to medium viscosity liquids. Thick oils and buttery blends flow slowly or not at all through the dropper; a different type of closure or packaging is more suitable for these. The dropper dispenses aqueous solutions without issue, but these require preservation of the contents just as with any water-based product.
Nominal and total volume
For every package we state two volumes. The nominal volume is the amount the vial is designed to hold when filled normally, here 5 ml. The total brim-full volume is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck and is always larger. The difference between them is the allowance for the dropper, which is inserted into the neck after filling and occupies part of the space, and for the expansion of contents with temperature changes. The vial should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will be pushed out when the dropper is inserted.
Fill the vial to the nominal volume, then press in the dropper and finally screw on the cap. If the contents leak after inserting the dropper, too much has been poured in.
Useful information when working with the packaging
Before the first fill, we recommend washing the glass, disinfecting it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing it to dry completely. Residual water in oil or fragrance contents is a common cause of cloudiness and microbial issues. The glass part can also be washed with warm water; the dropper and cap just need to be disinfected with alcohol and left to air dry.
The vial can be used repeatedly, but the glass must be thoroughly washed when changing the contents. Residues of strong fragrances are harder to remove from the dropper than from the glass, so with intensive essential oils it is more practical to replace the dropper with a new one.
The dropper is made of polypropylene and the cap of polyethylene. Both materials are commonly used with essential oils and fragrance compositions. For contents with a high proportion of solvents or unusual concentrates, we recommend verifying the compatibility of the plastic parts on a single vial before filling a larger batch.
Glass is sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot contents into a cold vial, and do not move a filled vial directly from cold to a heat source.
When labelling essential oils, bear in mind that the label must include the name, batch number, and mandatory safety information, so it is worth supplementing with an enclosed leaflet.
Closures with the same neck type, as stated in the specifications, as well as other ready-made vial and closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing, and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.
After use, the glass goes into glass recycling; the dropper and cap are disposed of separately as plastic.
