Product description

The brown plastic bottle with a transparent disc top cap, 300 ml, is a ready-made combination of bottle and cap for liquid and creamy cosmetic preparations dispensed with one hand. The brown PET colouring reduces light transmission and helps protect light-sensitive contents. The disc top opens by pressing on one side and closes just as easily after use. The 300 ml volume corresponds to the standard size of shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, body lotions, liquid soaps and facial cleansing gels.

The bottle is lightweight and shatter-resistant, making it suitable for the shower, bathroom and travel, where glass would not be practical.

Why choose this combination

  • Protection of contents from light – brown PET transmits less light than clear plastic, which slows the degradation of light-sensitive ingredients such as vegetable oils, fragrance compositions or certain active substances in emulsions.
  • One-hand dispensing – simply press one side of the disc top cap and the opening releases. Nothing to unscrew, fold or search for in the shower.
  • Lightweight shatter-resistant packaging – PET withstands dropping, does not weigh down a shipment and is suitable for the bathroom, gym or travel bag.
  • Clean product appearance – the transparent cap allows the bottle colour and label to show through and has a neutral look across different brand styles.
  • Ready-made assembly – the bottle and cap share the same neck type, so the combination seals without testing thread sizes.

How the disc top cap works

The disc top is a flat cap with a disc that tilts when pressed on one side, revealing the dispensing opening. The product flows out with gentle pressure on the bottle or when turned upside down. When pressure is released, the opening closes again and protects the contents from drying out and contamination.

This type of cap works best with medium to thicker preparations such as gels, lotions, shampoos, conditioners and creamy emulsions. Very thin, watery liquids (tonics, hydrolats, thin facial waters) flow through the disc top too quickly and are harder to dose. For such contents, a spray or pump is more suitable. The disc top is also not designed for powders or very thick butters that would not pass through the opening.

Before filling an entire batch, prepare one test bottle with your formulation and test both the dispensing and the seal when placed on its side and upside down. The viscosity of the preparation determines whether the disc top dispenses comfortably or whether a different type of cap is needed.

Nominal and total volume

Packaging comes with two volume figures. Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under standard filling conditions and also the figure stated on the finished product label. Total brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them provides clearance for the cap, a headspace above the contents and expansion of the contents with temperature change.

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling up to the neck would force the contents into the thread when closing, the cap would stick and leakage could occur during warmer storage. Both values are listed in the product specifications.

Preparation, filling and reuse

Bottles and caps are supplied unfilled and should be washed and disinfected before first use. The recommended procedure is rinsing with warm water, rinsing with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and thorough drying upside down. Residual water in the packaging can trigger microbial growth in the finished preparation, so bottles should be completely dry before filling.

Filling is most convenient through a funnel or a filling bottle with a nozzle. Thicker emulsions are easier to dispense while still slightly warm, but never hot. PET is not designed for hot-filling or heating; a hot emulsion or liquid soap straight from the pot can deform the bottle. Allow the preparation to cool to room temperature first.

After thorough cleaning and disinfection, the bottle can be reused for the same type of product. Before each new fill, check the disc top cap to ensure the disc holds firmly and that no residue from the previous contents remains inside that could contaminate the new batch.

Undiluted essential oils, fragrance compositions at high concentration and certain solvents may over time attack or discolour both PET and PP. In standard emulsions, gel and surfactant preparations with a low proportion of fragrance ingredients, the plastic remains stable. For oil-based perfumes or products with a high essential oil content, we recommend a stability test in this specific packaging.

Good to know

The set is not intended for contact with food and is therefore not suitable for household oils, syrups or other food products. The transparent disc top cap carries a declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle is supplied in cosmetic and technical grade; a separate declaration of contact suitability for cosmetics is not available for it. When using your own formulation, we therefore recommend verifying the compatibility of the packaging with the specific preparation. Declarations of conformity for both components are included with the product.

Brown PET reduces light transmission, but is not lightproof. For long-term storage of contents that are highly sensitive to light, keep filled bottles out of direct sunlight. The packaging supports protection but does not replace suitable storage conditions.

If you prefer a different dispensing method, caps with the same neck type and further ready-made bottle and cap combinations are available in the Handymade range. When creating your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing behaviour and packaging performance with your specific formulation. Label design dimensions are in the product specifications.

The bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP; both materials are recyclable as plastic. For disposal, simply empty and rinse the packaging; material codes are listed in the specifications.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 300 ml brown plastic bottle with disc top cap suitable for shampoo and shower gel?
Yes, this combination is best suited precisely for surfactant preparations such as shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps. The gel consistency dispenses smoothly through the disc top with a gentle squeeze of the bottle, the cap can be operated with one hand even with wet fingers, and PET does not shatter as easily as glass in the shower. The brown colouring also protects fragrance components from light.
Can a tonic or hydrolat be filled into a bottle with a disc top cap?
It is not a suitable combination. Thin, watery liquids flow through the disc top too quickly and the dose is hard to control; accidental compression in a bag may spill the contents. For tonics, hydrolats and thin facial waters, it is better to choose a bottle with a spray pump or a pump with the same neck thread type.
Does the brown PET bottle protect the contents from light in the same way as brown glass?
Brown PET transmits less light than clear plastic and significantly helps protect light-sensitive ingredients, but it is not completely lightproof. For standard shower and body preparations with a short period after opening, the protection is sufficient. For highly sensitive formulations, it is recommended to combine dark packaging with storage away from direct sunlight.
Can I fill a PET bottle with a disc top cap with products containing essential oils?
At standard essential oil concentrations in emulsions, gels and surfactant products, yes – both PET and PP will withstand such preparations. Undiluted essential oils, oil-based perfumes or formulations with a high proportion of fragrance ingredients may over time attack or discolour the plastic. In that case, we recommend carrying out a stability test in this packaging or choosing glass.
How to prepare the bottle and disc top cap before first filling?
Before first filling, wash the packaging with warm water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely upside down. Disinfect the disc top cap in the open position so the solution also reaches the dispensing channel. Fill the bottle only once it is completely dry and after the preparation has cooled to room temperature; PET is not designed for hot-filling.
