Product description

A white plastic bottle with a capacity of 250 ml and a transparent disc top cap is a complete set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products dispensed by squeezing the bottle. Shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, body lotions and liquid soaps are dispensed from it in a controlled manner without unscrewing, which is particularly appreciated in the shower and at the sink. The white wall transmits less light than clear plastic, so the contents are better protected from light. The bottle is made of PET, it is lightweight and shatterproof; the PP cap has the same 24/410 thread and fits the bottle precisely.

How to use the set

The disc top opens by pressing on the edge of the disc. One side depresses, the other lifts and uncovers the dispensing opening. The contents are dispensed by squeezing the bottle; when pressure is released, the flow stops. Pressing the disc back closes the opening, so the cap is also suitable for products used daily that stand on a shelf with the opening facing up.

Works best with contents of medium viscosity. Very thin, watery formulations may flow out in a larger amount than needed when the bottle is opened, and very thick creams are hard to push through the opening. With thickened gels, lotions and shampoos, dispensing is smooth.

Test the consistency of your formulation with the complete set before filling the entire batch. Simply fill one bottle and check that the contents dispense as needed and that nothing leaks after closing the disc.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of the bottle is 250 ml. The packaging is designed for this volume under normal filling conditions. The total volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference provides a reserve for the cap, an air cushion when squeezing, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, with the level remaining below the neck. With a disc top cap, the reserve has an additional purpose: when the bottle is squeezed, the contents must not be forced into the thread, otherwise the closure will become clogged and dispensing will no longer be clean.

Contact with cosmetics and food

The complete set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity can be found with the product. The bottle alone additionally has a certificate for direct food contact; the disc top cap does not have such a certificate. The bottle + disc top set is therefore intended for cosmetics. If you need packaging for food use, choose a cap with the same thread and a food-grade certificate from the Handymade range.

Good to know

  • Preparation before filling – wash the bottle and cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the container is a source of microbial contamination.
  • Filling temperature – PET is not designed for hot filling. Allow emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle may deform.
  • Essential oils and solvents – for formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic with your specific formulation. Do not expose the packaging to aggressive chemicals. PET and PP are used as standard in common rinse-off products.
  • Reuse – the set can be refilled after washing and disinfecting. When refilling, check that the disc holds firmly and that the opening closes completely when pressed.
  • Sorting – the bottle is made of PET, the cap of PP. Separate them before disposal; each material is sorted separately.

When shipping by parcel or carrying in luggage, place the filled bottle in a bag and position it so it does not lie with the opening facing down. Squeezing the bottle in transit will force the contents out through the disc top.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 250 ml white plastic bottle with disc top suitable for shower gel?
Yes, shower gel, shampoo and liquid soap are typical products for this set. A gel of medium viscosity dispenses smoothly by squeezing the bottle, and when pressure is released, the flow stops. The cap opens with one hand by pressing on the edge of the disc, which is an advantage in the shower. Before filling a batch, verify dispensing with your formulation.
Can a thin toner or hydrolate be filled into a disc top bottle?
We do not recommend it. Very thin, watery contents flow through the disc top opening without control, especially when the bottle is tipped or squeezed. A spray bottle or a bottle with a cap without a dispensing opening is more suitable for toners and hydrolates. The disc top is designed for thickened gels, lotions and shampoos.
Does the white PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Partially. The white wall transmits less light than clear plastic, so the contents are better protected from light than in a transparent bottle. White plastic does not provide complete protection from light; we recommend storing light-sensitive formulations away from direct sunlight. The white wall also has a practical advantage: any discolouration of the contents over time is not visible from the outside.
Can the disc top set be used for home oils or syrups?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. The food-grade contact certificate applies to the white PET bottle individually; the disc top cap does not have one. The set is intended for cosmetic products. For food use, combine the bottle with a cap that has a food-grade certificate.
How is a disc top bottle cleaned before reuse?
Wash the bottle and cap with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Press the disc into the open position so the dispensing channel, where product residue remains, is also cleaned. Allow both parts to dry completely before refilling.
