Product description

This amber plastic bottle with a volume of 200 ml and a white disc top cap is designed for cosmetic products that are dispensed by squeezing the bottle: shampoos, shower gels, body lotions and massage oils. Amber PET reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so it also suits formulations with vegetable oils, vitamins or essential oils, which lose stability more quickly in light. Compared with glass, the bottle is light and does not break if dropped in the shower.

The set is supplied as a ready-made combination of a bottle and a cap with a 24/410 neck finish. Simply fill it, screw on the cap and the product is ready for sale or home use.

What it is suitable for

  • Shampoos and conditioners – thick and medium-thick surfactant blends that can be dispensed with one hand, even in the shower.
  • Shower gels and liquid soaps – with a gel consistency, the disc top opening releases a suitable amount without leaking.
  • Body lotions and light emulsions – thinner creams that cannot be scooped from a jar flow out through the disc top when you squeeze the bottle.
  • Massage and body oils – amber plastic limits the amount of light reaching the contents. Thinner oils flow out quickly, so dispense them more carefully.

How dispensing through the disc top works

The cap opens by pressing one side of the disc, which uncovers the outlet opening. You squeeze the bottle to dispense the contents and close the cap by pressing the disc back down. The whole action can be done with one hand, which is why this type of closure is used mainly for rinse-off products and bathroom cosmetics.

It works best with products of medium to higher viscosity. Very thin liquids, such as toners or hydrosols, flow out of the opening uncontrollably, and a fine mist sprayer or pump is more suitable for them. Very thick creams, on the other hand, may not pass through the opening even when you squeeze harder.

Before making a larger batch, fill one bottle and test how the product flows through the disc top. You can then adjust the viscosity of the formulation so that dispensing is smooth.

Volume and filling

Nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. Brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck, and you can find it in the parameters. The difference between them provides headroom for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed into the thread when you screw on the cap, and the disc top then does not seal.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely.
  • Heat – PET does not tolerate high temperatures. Let emulsions and gels cool before filling and do not wash the bottle with boiling water.
  • Product composition – PET copes well with water-based formulations, surfactant bases and common vegetable oils. Do not expose the packaging to aggressive chemicals.
  • Contact with cosmetics – the set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and you can find the declaration of conformity on the product page. It is not intended for food.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP. Separate them before disposal and place them in plastics recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber PET reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and slows the changes that light triggers in oils, vitamins and essential oils. However, it does not provide complete darkness like opaque packaging, so do not store the finished product in direct sunlight. For light-sensitive formulations, an amber bottle is more suitable than a clear one.
What products is the disc top cap suitable for?
The disc top is suitable for products of medium to higher viscosity that are dispensed by squeezing the bottle: shampoos, shower gels, conditioners, body lotions and thicker oils. Thin liquids such as toners or hydrosols flow out of the opening too quickly. With very thick creams, check beforehand that they pass through the opening.
How much actually fits into the 200 ml plastic bottle?
The bottle is designed to be filled with 200 ml, which is its nominal volume. The brimful volume is larger and is given in the parameters, but this difference serves as headroom for the cap and for the expansion of the contents. We do not recommend filling to the brim, as the contents would get into the thread when you screw on the cap and the closure would not seal.
Can the plastic bottle with the disc top be reused?
Yes, after washing and disinfecting, the bottle and the cap can be filled again. Use lukewarm water and a cleaning product, then isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave both parts to dry. Do not use boiling water, as PET deforms at high temperatures. Before refilling, check that the disc top still seals well.
Can I fill a PET bottle with a product containing alcohol or essential oils?
Common cosmetic formulations with a water, surfactant or oil base are fine for PET. For products with a high proportion of alcohol, concentrated essential oils or solvents, check beforehand how the bottle behaves with your specific formulation. The packaging should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals.
Does a closure other than the disc top fit this bottle?
Yes, the bottle has a 24/410 neck finish, and you can use other closures with the same type of neck from the Handymade range, where you can also find ready-made combinations. With your own combination, always check the seal and how the product is dispensed through the chosen closure.
