Product description

Glass pharmaceutical bottle, 28 mm, black cap with pourer insert, 1 l

A large-capacity 1 l amber glass bottle with a black cap and a pourer insert. It is suitable for ingredients that are decanted in larger batches and need protection from light: vegetable oils, hydrolates, liquid bases for soap and shampoo, extracts, tinctures, or a finished batch before it is filled into smaller bottles. Amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so contents sensitive to light and oxidation keep their properties for longer.

The pourer insert in the closure narrows the opening of the neck. The contents flow in a narrow stream and dispensing from the litre bottle stays under control, so when weighing or measuring you do not pour more than needed.

What the set is suitable for

  • Vegetable oils – a larger quantity of the oil phase in dark glass; the pourer insert makes it easier to measure on a scale.
  • Hydrolates and aqueous extracts – a water phase prepared in advance for several batches; glass does not react with the contents and does not absorb fragrances.
  • Liquid bases – finished shampoo or soap bases that are dispensed in smaller amounts.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass tolerates alcohol without any change in the material, and the amber colour slows down changes caused by light.
  • Decanting a finished batch – temporary storage of a larger volume before filling into bottles for sale.

Volume, neck and closure

The nominal capacity of 1000 ml is the volume the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the closure with pourer insert and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill the bottle to the nominal capacity, not to the brim, otherwise the insert will push the contents out when the bottle is closed.

The neck has a 28 mm thread; the exact type is given in the parameters. You can find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made packaging + closure combinations in the Handymade range. If you choose your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing, and how the packaging behaves with your specific formulation.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and let them dry completely. Otherwise, residual water in the neck or in the insert will get into the oil-based contents and shorten their shelf life.

Good to know

The glass bottle has a separate declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetic products and for direct contact with food; the declaration of conformity and the certificate of analysis are provided with the bottle product. No such declaration is available for the cap with pourer insert, so the set as a whole is not declared for contact with food or with cosmetics. For products where the contents come into contact with the insert, we recommend checking how the cap behaves with your specific formulation.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Do not pour a hot oil phase or a freshly brewed extract into a cold bottle; let the contents cool to room temperature first. For water-based and alcohol-based contents, check after filling that the insert stays tight even when the bottle is tilted. With a volume of one litre, a leak means considerable loss.

The cap is made of polypropylene (PP). With concentrated essential oils and strong solvents, we recommend checking after some time whether the insert has changed shape or tightness. The packaging is intended for repeated use: after emptying, simply wash it, remove oil residues with warm water and washing-up liquid, disinfect it, and let it dry. The bottle is recycled as glass; the cap with insert belongs in plastic.

The insert narrows the stream, so thicker contents, such as viscous bases or thick oils when cold, pour slowly. With such formulations, it is worth checking whether the pourer insert is suitable for the given product, or choosing a cap without an insert.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 1 l amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and slows down the changes that light causes in an oil or an extract. It does not provide complete protection, so the bottle should still be kept out of direct sunlight. For vegetable oils, hydrolates, and tinctures, amber glass is a better choice than clear glass.
Is the bottle and pourer insert set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not declared for contact with food. The glass bottle has a separate certificate for direct contact with food, while the black cap with pourer insert has no such declaration. For homemade oils or syrups, you can use the bottle alone with a different closure that has a food-contact certificate.
How much does the 1 l bottle actually hold?
The bottle is intended for a nominal capacity of 1000 ml; the physical volume up to the brim is somewhat larger and is given in the parameters. The difference serves as a reserve for the cap with insert and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal capacity; if you fill it to the brim, the insert will push the contents out.
Can hot contents be filled into the 1 l glass bottle?
We do not recommend it, as glass tolerates sudden thermal shock poorly. Let a hot oil phase or a freshly prepared extract cool to room temperature and only then pour it in. When filling warm contents, you also need to allow for expansion and fill only up to the nominal capacity to leave the reserve.
How do I clean and reuse the bottle with pourer insert?
Both the bottle and the cap can be used repeatedly. Remove oil residues with warm water and washing-up liquid, then disinfect both parts with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Check that no residues of the previous contents remain in the insert and that it still seals properly.
Is the pourer insert suitable for thick oils and bases?
The pourer insert is only of limited suitability for thicker contents, because it narrows the stream and thick bases or oils when cold pour through it slowly. We recommend checking its suitability for your specific formulation. For viscous products, a cap without an insert and with the same neck type is more suitable.
