Product description

This amber glass pharmaceutical bottle with a capacity of 1 l and a black plastic pump is used for filling and dispensing liquid cosmetic products in larger quantities. The dark glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with oils, liquid soaps or shampoos with natural ingredients that lose their fragrance or colour more quickly in light. Each press of the pump dispenses approximately 1 ml, so the contents are dispensed without opening the bottle and without your hands touching the product.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle itself also has a certificate for direct contact with food; the pump does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

The 1 l size with a pump suits products that are used daily and in larger amounts: liquid hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, body lotion, massage or bath oil, facial cleansing gel. It also serves as a stock bottle in a salon or workshop, from which smaller packaging for sale is filled on an ongoing basis.

  • Liquid and medium-thick products – the pump draws up liquids and lighter emulsions. Thicker creams or butters will not pass through it; with thicker textures, we recommend verifying the dispensing with your specific formulation.
  • Oil-based products – amber glass slows the changes that light causes in oils and fragrance ingredients.
  • Water-based products with a preservative – the closed system with a pump limits the introduction of impurities into the contents, but preservation of the water phase is still necessary.

Filling and capacity

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. Brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and you can find it in the parameters. The difference between them provides a reserve for the pump body with its tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will overflow when the pump is screwed on.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck or in the tube could affect anhydrous contents.

The pump screws onto the PP28S neck thread and the tube is inserted into the bottle during assembly. Before first use, press the pump several times until the tube fills and the pump starts to dispense the contents.

Good to know

Let a hot product cool down first after emulsification or dissolving, and fill only at room temperature. A sudden change in temperature stresses the glass and warm contents may deform the plastic parts of the pump.

For products with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend first verifying the behaviour of the pump and its tightness on a small quantity.

The pump is not a closure for transport. If pressed accidentally or under pressure in a parcel, the contents may leak, so a full bottle is transported with a screw closure and the pump is fitted only at the place of use. You can find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend verifying tightness, dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

After washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. Before the next filling, rinse the pump with clean water, let it dry and check that the tube is not blocked by residues of the old contents. For recycling, glass belongs with glass and the pump with plastics; separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

What contents does the 1 l amber glass pharmaceutical bottle protect from light?
Amber glass reduces the passage of light to the contents, but does not block it completely. It thus slows the change of colour and fragrance in vegetable oils, products with essential oils and natural extracts, which degrade in light. The bottle should still be stored out of direct sunlight; dark glass does not replace a suitable storage place.
Is the glass pharmaceutical bottle set with a pump suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the pump does not. The complete set with the pump is therefore intended for cosmetic products. If you need a bottle for food, combine it with a closure that has a certificate for food contact.
How many ml does the pump on the 1 l pharmaceutical bottle dispense per press?
The pump dispenses approximately 1 ml of contents per full press. The actual dose depends on the thickness of the product: with thinner liquids it is closer to the stated value, with thicker emulsions it may be smaller. Before a larger production run, we recommend weighing the dose with your specific formulation.
Can thick cream be filled into a glass pharmaceutical bottle with a pump?
No, the pump cannot draw thick cream or body butter up through the tube. Liquid to medium-thick products are suitable: liquid soap, shampoo, body lotion, oil, cleansing gel. For emulsions with higher viscosity, we recommend testing the dispensing on a small quantity before filling the whole bottle.
To what volume is the 1 l pharmaceutical bottle with a pump filled?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 1 l, not to the brim. The reserve above the nominal volume is intended for the pump body, which is immersed in the contents when screwed on, and for the expansion of the product when the temperature changes. If filled to the neck, the contents would overflow once the pump is fitted.
How do you clean a glass pharmaceutical bottle with a pump before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry upside down. Unscrew the pump, pump clean water through it several times to rinse the tube and the mechanism, and let it dry completely before the next filling.
