Product description
A one-litre brown glass bottle in a pharmaceutical shape with a tall white cap is a stock container for contents sensitive to light. Brown glass reduces light transmission, making it suitable for vegetable and massage oils, tinctures, alcohol extracts, hydrolats, or stock solutions of active ingredients. This is a ready-made set: a glass bottle of European origin and a plastic cap with a 28/410 thread that fits the bottle neck without any further searching.
The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle alone holds a certificate for direct food contact, but the cap does not, so the set is intended for cosmetic use.
Why choose this set
- Light protection – brown glass limits light penetration and helps protect oils, essential oils, and sensitive active ingredients from oxidation and loss of scent.
- Glass resistance – glass does not react with oils, alcohol, or essential oils, does not absorb scents, and can be washed and disinfected repeatedly.
- Secure closure – the tall cap screws onto the bottle neck and seals the container; it can be easily re-closed after opening.
- Production volume – one litre is enough for a supply of raw material or a full batch of finished product, which is then filled into smaller containers.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for during normal filling. Total brim volume is the physical capacity up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the cap and for expansion of the contents, for example with temperature changes. Filling to the brim risks spillage when closing, and the contents may be pushed into the thread. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Specific values for both volumes are listed in the product parameters.
With oils and alcohol-based contents, leave free space in the neck. A container filled to the brim is harder to close without spillage when heated or carried.
What the set is suitable for
- Vegetable and massage oils – dark glass slows yellowing and rancidity; the one-litre volume covers a supply for a longer period.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass resists alcohol, and the brown colour protects the contents from light during maceration and storage.
- Hydrolats and tonics – aqueous contents are stable in glass, but require preservation for longer storage.
- Stock solutions – dissolved active ingredients, glycerin or water premixes that are dosed into multiple formulations.
- Finished products in larger packaging – bath and shower oils, cleansing oils, or facial waters for salons and workshops.
The set is not intended for products that are dispensed directly from the bottle drop by drop or by spraying. For such use, the contents are transferred into smaller containers with a dropper or spray head.
What is good to know
Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing and rinsing both the bottle and the cap before use, disinfecting with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, and leaving them to dry completely. Residual water in oil-based contents promotes microbial growth.
Glass and temperature. Glass tolerates heating, but not sudden thermal shock. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle, and do not cool a filled bottle rapidly.
Cap and contents. The cap is made of LDPE plastic. With contents containing a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend verifying the cap's behaviour with the specific formulation, especially for longer-term storage.
Other closures. Further closures with the same neck type and ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, verify the seal with the specific contents.
Labelling. The cylindrical shape of the bottle allows easy label application.
Recycling. The glass bottle goes into the glass waste stream; the plastic cap is unscrewed before disposal and sorted separately as plastic.
A one-litre glass bottle filled with contents is heavy. When storing or transporting it, place it on a stable surface to prevent it from falling and breaking.
