Product description

The black plastic container with a volume of 300 ml is supplied as a ready-made set with a white lid and a sealing membrane, so you only need to fill it and close it. The black wall of the container hides the contents and limits the access of light, which you will appreciate with body butters, scrubs and masks containing plant oils or coloured extracts. The white lid contrasts with the black body and stands out well on the shelf and in the bathroom.

All three components of the set, the container, the lid and the membrane, are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics and are also approved for direct food contact. The set can therefore be used for homemade and professional cosmetics, and equally for dried herbs, spices, salt or homemade spreads. The container is made of PET and the lid of PP. Both parts are lightweight and, unlike glass, do not shatter when dropped.

What the set is suitable for

  • Body butters and thick creams – the wide neck allows you to scoop out the contents with your fingers or a spatula, which saves time and effort with firmer textures.
  • Salt and sugar scrubs – the container holds a batch for several weeks of use, and coarse particles are easy to scoop out of it.
  • Face, hair or body masks – clay, cream and oil masks can be easily taken out of the low container right down to the bottom.
  • Bath salts and loose blends – the sealing membrane helps keep loose contents dry.
  • Food – dried herbs, spice blends, salt or homemade spreads; the whole set is approved for food contact.

How the set seals and closes

The lid is screwed onto the container; the thread type is given in the parameters. Inside the lid there is a white membrane made of HDPE and EPE, which sits against the neck of the container when tightened and improves the seal compared with the lid alone. For most creams and scrubs, tightening by hand is sufficient. The membrane is not a heat-seal foil and is not a guarantee of an airtight closure. For thin or oily contents, we therefore recommend testing the seal with your actual formulation, especially if the container will be transported.

For products that are dispensed with the fingers, it helps to place a cosmetic spatula under the lid or to recommend that your customer uses one. The contents will stay clean for longer and you will reduce the risk of introducing microorganisms into the cream.

The same container can also be combined with other lids with the same neck type; you will find ready-made combinations as well as closures sold separately in the Handymade range. When making your own combination, test the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume is the volume the container is intended for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is slightly larger, because the container must keep a reserve for the lid with the membrane and for any expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The container is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. With whipped butters, also bear in mind that the whipped texture settles slightly over time and the level drops.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the container and the lid, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. It is enough to wipe the membrane with disinfectant and let it air out. Do not soak it for long periods, so that the foam layer does not absorb liquid.

PET does not withstand hot filling. Let body butters, balms and other melted mixtures cool to close to room temperature before pouring them into the container, as the wall of the container may deform at high temperatures.

After it has been emptied, the container can be washed and reused, especially for the same type of product. We recommend replacing the membrane after prolonged use, because it compresses over time and seals less well. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, check compatibility with PET on a single piece before filling larger quantities.

At the end of use, the individual parts are sorted by material: the container as PET, the lid as PP, and the membrane should be removed from the lid before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black container protect the contents from light?
Yes, the black wall of the container limits the access of light to the contents better than clear or white plastic. This helps especially with products containing plant oils, vitamins and natural colorants, which change colour or fragrance more quickly in light. However, the packaging does not replace proper storage, so do not leave the finished product in direct sunlight for long periods.
Is the 300 ml plastic container with lid also suitable for food?
Yes, the container, the lid and the membrane are each separately approved for direct food contact, so you can use the whole set for food purposes. It is suitable for dried herbs, spices, salt or homemade spreads. It is also declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. You will find the declaration of conformity for each component with the product.
How much cream fits into a 300 ml container?
With normal filling, you fill the container to approximately its nominal volume, that is 300 ml. Above this level, a reserve must remain for the lid with the sealing membrane and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Never fill the container to the brim, as the contents would be pushed onto the thread when closing and the seal would be poorer.
Can I pour hot body butter into a PET container?
No, let melted butters and balms cool before filling. PET softens at higher temperatures and the wall of the container may deform or buckle. Fill whipped butters only after whipping, and poured balms when the mixture starts to set at the edges but can still be poured.
What is the white membrane in the lid for, and can it be reused?
The membrane inserted in the lid sits against the neck of the container when tightened and improves the seal compared with the plastic lid alone. It can be reused; simply wipe it with disinfectant and let it dry. After prolonged use, the foam layer compresses and seals less well, and at that point you should replace it with a new one.
Can the container be washed and reused?
Yes, the container and the lid can be washed in warm water with washing-up liquid, disinfected and reused. Do not use boiling water or a dishwasher at a high temperature, as the PET could deform. When changing the type of product, for example from an oil-based scrub to a cream with a water phase, make sure to degrease the container thoroughly and let it dry completely.
