Product description
A white plastic jar with lid, 500 ml, is a complete packaging solution for thicker and semi-solid preparations dispensed by scooping: body butters, creams, scrubs, masks and bath salts. It consists of a white jar, a white screw-on lid and an inserted membrane. Simply wash it, fill it and close it — nothing else needs to be purchased separately.
The jar is made from PET plastic, which is lightweight and won't shatter if dropped. You'll appreciate this in the bathroom and when shipping to customers. The white opaque wall reduces light exposure to the contents better than a clear container. The complete set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics and is also approved for direct food contact, making it suitable for homemade syrups, honey, dried herbs or spices.
Why choose this set
- Wide neck – easy to scoop from the jar with a spoon or spatula. Equally easy to fill and clean, even when the contents are thick or contain coarse particles such as salt or sugar in a scrub.
- Lid with membrane – the inserted membrane presses against the neck rim when the lid is screwed on, sealing the joint between the jar and lid. Contents resist drying out better and the risk of oily contents seeping through during transport is reduced.
- 500 ml capacity – suitable for family-size body butters and creams, larger scrubs or bath salts where smaller jars would not suffice.
- All-plastic components – the jar is made of PET, the lid of PP and the membrane of HDPE. The set is lightweight, shatterproof and can be reused after washing.
- Uniform white appearance – the white jar and lid provide a clean, neutral base for a label and require no colour coordination with the closure.
Which products is it suitable for
The set is intended for products that are scooped, not poured. It works well for whipped body butters, thick creams, anhydrous balms, sugar and salt scrubs, clay or mud masks, bath salts or solid shampoos and conditioners stored in larger quantities. For scrubs and salts, you'll appreciate the wide neck that fits an entire hand or a large spoon.
For liquid and thin preparations such as tonics, oils or facial milks, the jar is not suitable. Thin contents would be difficult to dispense and would spill if tipped over, despite the seal. Bottles with a dispensing closure are intended for such products.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume for which the jar is designed under normal filling conditions, and this is the figure stated in the product name. Total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference accounts for the lid with membrane and for possible expansion of the contents, for example with temperature changes or with whipped butters that gain volume after whipping.
Fill the jar to the nominal volume, not to the brim. When screwing on the lid, the membrane will then seat on a dry neck rim and the contents will not be pushed onto the thread during closing, where they would later soil the lid and impair the seal.
What is good to know before first use
Before the first filling, wash and sanitise the jar, lid and membrane with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the jar can reduce the stability of anhydrous products and shorten the shelf life of microbiologically sensitive creams. Follow the same procedure with each subsequent reuse.
Do not pour hot material into the PET jar. Allow melted butters, balms or waxes to cool before filling until they begin to set slightly. Hot material can deform the jar wall and impair the seating of the lid.
For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, solvents or alcohol, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation, for example by storing a sample for several weeks. PET and PP are resistant plastics, but concentrated fragrant components may leave a mark or odour on the surface after prolonged contact that is then difficult to remove.
For labelling, a smooth white surface is available on the jar wall and on the lid. Lids with the same neck type and further ready-made jar and lid combinations are available in the Handymade range.
The PET jar and PP lid belong in sorted plastic waste. Remove the membrane from the lid before recycling and dispose of it together with plastics.
