Product description

Plastic container, 100 mm, amber, 500 ml, with white lid

A set for packaging larger volumes of cosmetics: an amber PET container with a nominal volume of 500 ml, a white PP lid and a sealing membrane inserted in the lid. The container and lid have the same neck finish, and the membrane fits into the lid. Once filled, the container closes easily and the contents are protected against leakage and drying out.

The amber colour of the plastic reduces the passage of light, which you will appreciate with contents containing vegetable oils, butters or fragrance ingredients that lose quality in light. PET is lightweight and does not break when dropped, so it also suits products that customers take into the shower or bathroom.

The set is approved for direct food contact as well as for use with cosmetic products. You will find the declarations of conformity for the individual components on the product page.

What it is good for

A volume of 500 ml is enough for products that are scooped out by hand or with a spoon and used in larger quantities:

  • Body butters and whipped butters – the wide neck makes scooping easier even with a firmer consistency.
  • Salt and sugar scrubs – the lid with a membrane keeps the contents sealed even if the container tips over in the bathroom.
  • Bath salts and bath blends – free-flowing contents are easy to dispense from the container, and the membrane limits moisture absorption.
  • Hair and body masks, powdered clay masks – the volume lasts for several weeks of use.
  • Food – homemade spice blends, dried herbs, flavoured salts or loose teas.

For liquid emulsions with low viscosity, packaging with a pump or a narrower neck is more suitable. A container with a wide neck is designed for contents that are scooped out.

How the set works

The lid is screwed onto the neck of the container and the membrane in the lid sits on the rim of the neck. Under normal handling, this seal prevents leakage and slows down the drying out of the contents. The membrane is designed for the lid of this set. With repeated opening, it is enough to check it occasionally and replace it if it is damaged.

Pour body butters and products with melted wax into the container only after they have partially cooled. PET is not designed for hot filling and may deform at higher temperatures.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume indicates the quantity of contents the container is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume of the container up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the membrane and lid and for the expansion of the contents, for example with a change in temperature. The container should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. For thick products that increase in volume after cooling, leave a slightly larger reserve.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – we recommend washing the container, lid and membrane, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting them dry completely.
  • Essential oils and solvents – for products with a higher proportion of essential oils, limonene or other solvents, test in advance how the plastic reacts. Concentrated fragrance ingredients can affect the surface during long contact, and the packaging must not come into contact with aggressive chemicals.
  • Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the set can be used again. For cosmetics intended for sale, we always recommend new packaging.
  • Leak-tightness with a specific formulation – the behaviour of the packaging depends on the viscosity and composition of the contents. Before filling a larger batch, fill one container and leave it standing on its side and upside down for several days.
  • Waste sorting – the container is made of PET and the lid of PP. Before sorting, it is enough to separate them and remove the membrane.

You will find other closures with the same neck finish, as well as other ready-made container and lid combinations, in the Handymade range.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic container protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the plastic reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents. It is therefore suitable for products with vegetable oils, butters and fragrance ingredients that are sensitive to light. However, the packaging does not guarantee complete protection from light, so store the container away from direct sunlight.
Is the 500 ml plastic container suitable for food?
Yes, the container, lid and membrane are approved for direct food contact. The set can be used for homemade spice blends, dried herbs, flavoured salts or loose teas. The declarations of conformity for the individual components are listed on the product page.
What is the membrane in the container lid for?
The membrane seals the joint between the lid and the neck of the container. It prevents the contents from leaking when the container is turned over and slows down the drying out of products that are used over a longer period. With repeated opening, check it occasionally and replace it with a new one if it is damaged.
Can I pour hot body butter into a PET container?
No, fill the PET container only after the contents have partially cooled. At higher temperatures the plastic may deform or lose its shape. Let melted butters and wax blends cool and thicken to a temperature at which they can still be poured, and only then transfer them to the container.
How much can the 500 ml container hold?
The container is designed to be filled to the nominal volume of 500 ml. The physical volume up to the neck is somewhat larger, but this space remains as a reserve for the membrane, lid and expansion of the contents. For thick and whipped products, bear in mind that they may increase in volume after cooling.
How do I prepare the plastic container before the first filling?
Before first use, wash the container, lid and membrane, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water or alcohol in the container can affect the stability of the product, especially with anhydrous butters and scrubs.
