Eucalyptus Globulus Essential Oil, 10 ml

Essential oil Eucalyptus Globulus gives products a fresh, cooling and distinctly cineole-rich scent that everyone associates with eucalyptus. It is obtained by steam distillation from the leaves of the Eucalyptus globulus tree and contains 80–85% 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), which carries both the scent and the cooling sensation on the skin. It is most commonly used in massage and body oils, shower gels, shampoos and scalp products, bath salts and diffusers. The oil is of plant origin and vegan.

Use in formulation

The oil is insoluble in water and dissolves in oils and alcohol. In anhydrous products (massage oils, balms, bath oils) it is mixed directly into the oil phase. In tonics, hydrolat sprays or bath waters it must first be dissolved in alcohol or bound to a solubiliser, otherwise it separates on the surface. In surfactant-based products (shower gels, shampoos, liquid soaps) it is incorporated into the surfactant base. It is compatible with anionic, cationic, non-ionic and amphoteric surfactants, with both acidic and neutral pH, and with common preservatives.

The recommended processing temperature is below 40 °C. In emulsions, the oil is added at the end, into the cooled emulsion with constant stirring, so that the volatile components are not lost during heating.

The eucalyptus scent is pronounced in fragrance compositions and easily dominates a blend. If it is to remain just one of the composition's components, keep it at a smaller proportion than the main scent.

• Massage and body oils – cooling and refreshing effect, especially in post-exertion or foot products.
• Shower gels and bath salts – fresh scent and deodorising effect in rinse-off products.
• Shampoos, conditioners and hair tonics – scalp refreshment and hair fragrance.
• Facial care – at low dosage, always within the IFRA limit for facial preparations.
• Diffusers and aromatherapy – on its own or in a blend for diffusers, aroma lamps and air fresheners.

Good to know

The product is subject to CLP classification: it is flammable, irritant, may cause skin sensitisation, carries the pictogram for serious long-term health hazards and is harmful to the environment. Essential oil is never applied to the skin undiluted. In leave-on products it is kept at the lower end of the dosage range and a patch test on a small area of skin is recommended to verify tolerability.
