Product description

Blue glass medicine bottle, glossy silver dropper, 50 ml

A ready-made combination of a blue glass medicine bottle with a volume of 50 ml and a glass dropper with a glossy silver cap. It is suitable for facial serums, oil blends for the face and hair, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, tinctures or alcohol extracts, that is, wherever the contents are dispensed drop by drop and should not be exposed to light throughout use.

Blue glass dampens the light reaching the contents, which helps with ingredients sensitive to oxidation, such as oils or serums with vitamin C. The glass also does not react with alcohol or essential oils, so the bottle can hold water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based contents. Both the bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

How the set works

The dropper consists of a glass tube with a silicone bulb and a cap in a glossy silver finish. The cap screws onto the neck of the bottle and seals it during normal storage and carrying in an upright position. To use it, unscrew the cap, squeeze the bulb, draw up the contents and dispense them drop by drop directly onto your fingers or skin. The length of the dropper is adapted to this bottle.

  • Precise dispensing – the dropper measures even small amounts, which suits serums and concentrated oil blends better than pouring from the neck.
  • Less contact with air – the contents are not poured out, and only a little air gets into the bottle each time it is opened. Oils therefore age more slowly.
  • Protection from light – blue glass reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents. For longer storage, still keep the bottle out of direct sunlight.
  • Reusable – both the glass and the dropper can be washed and refilled. Check the silicone bulb and replace it if it loses its elasticity.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended to hold during normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them leaves room for the dropper, which takes up part of the space once screwed in, and for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will push the contents out when the dropper is inserted, and they may leak under the cap.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Any residual water in the tube would otherwise get into an oil-based product or an anhydrous serum.

Good to know

Fill the bottle cold or after the product has cooled. Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well, so pour in a hot emulsion or oil phase only after it has cooled to close to room temperature.

With correct use, the silicone bulb does not come into contact with the contents. When drawing up the liquid, however, you may take up too much and the liquid can rise as far as the bulb, which with concentrated essential oils and strong alcohol tinctures may soften the bulb over time.

The bottle can also be combined with other closures that have the same neck type listed in the parameters, and you can find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and the behaviour of the closure with your specific formulation.

The set is not declared for contact with food. It is intended for cosmetic products, so we do not recommend it for homemade oils, syrups or herbal extracts for consumption.

Once empty, the bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper combines glass, silicone, plastic and aluminium, so before recycling, separate the glass tube from the bulb and the cap.

Frequently asked questions

Does a blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, blue glass dampens part of the light reaching the contents, so serums and oils age more slowly in it than in clear glass. It does not provide complete darkness, however, so store a bottle with sensitive contents out of direct sunlight and at room temperature. For oils and serums with vitamin C, this makes a difference to the shelf life of the product.
How much fits in a 50 ml dropper bottle?
Fill it up to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is larger, and you can find its value in the product parameters. The difference leaves room for the dropper, which takes up part of the space once screwed in, and for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. An overfilled bottle will overflow when the dropper is inserted.
Is a glass dropper bottle suitable for essential oils and tinctures?
Yes, glass resists essential oils and alcohol, so the bottle suits oil blends, tinctures and alcohol extracts. With highly concentrated essential oils and tinctures with a high alcohol content, check the silicone bulb of the dropper after some time to make sure it is not softening and still seals as well as it did at the start.
Can a dropper bottle be washed and refilled?
Yes, both the glass bottle and the glass tube of the dropper can be washed and reused. Wash them in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse them and disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. They must be completely dry before you fill them again. If the bulb of the dropper loses its elasticity or changes colour, replace it with a new dropper.
Is a dropper bottle suitable for cream or emulsion?
The dropper is intended for liquid contents that can be drawn up into the tube, that is, serums, oils, tinctures and thin fluids. A thick cream or gel cannot be drawn up by the dropper and may block it. For thicker emulsions, we recommend a bottle with a pump or a jar of the same or a larger volume.
