Product description

An amber glass pharmaceutical bottle with a glossy silver dropper already fitted is a ready-made set for face serums, oil blends and tinctures that are dispensed drop by drop. The amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so vegetable oils, blends with essential oils and light-sensitive active ingredients stay stable for longer. The dropper draws up exactly as much as you need, and the contents never come into contact with your fingers.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The set as a whole, that is the bottle together with the dropper, is intended for cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Face serums and oil serums – drop-by-drop dispensing suits products that are applied in small amounts and where precision matters.
  • Essential oil blends and fragrance blends – dark glass slows down degradation caused by light, and with the dropper you can measure the blend drop by drop into a diffuser, a bath or a recipe.
  • Active ingredient concentrates – both water-based and oil-based concentrates that are added to finished cosmetics drop by drop.
  • Test batches – the 50 ml volume is enough to test a recipe before making a larger batch.

Dispensing and filling

The dropper has a glossy silver casing that screws onto the thread of the bottle, and a glass tube whose length is matched to the height of this pharmaceutical bottle, so it draws up the contents even at the bottom. The construction combines aluminium, glass, silicone and plastic. The bulb is squeezed before it is immersed in the contents; when released, the tube fills and the dose is measured by counting drops. This is how oils, serums and other liquid products of lower viscosity are dispensed. The dropper does not draw up thick gels or creams.

You will find two volumes on the page. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the immersed part of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.

Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim. If it is filled up to the neck, the fitted dropper pushes part of the contents out and the product runs down the thread.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse the dropper in the same way; it must be dry before it is fitted, otherwise residual water would get into an anhydrous product.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Do not pour a hot oil phase or a freshly brewed infusion into a cold bottle; first let the contents cool down to at least lukewarm.

The bulb and the sealing parts of the dropper contain silicone and plastic. For undiluted essential oils, alcohol tinctures and products with a higher proportion of solvents, we recommend checking how these parts behave during longer storage and, if necessary, replacing the dropper after some time.

After use, do not put the dropper back into the bottle once the product has been applied to the skin or transferred into another container with it. This easily contaminates the contents, especially in water-based serums without sufficient preservation.

Both the bottle and the dropper can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. When changing the filling to a different type of product, for example from a fragrance blend to a face serum, bear in mind that the silicone and plastic parts may retain a residual scent.

Closures with the same neck finish as stated in the parameters, and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend verifying the tightness and the dispensing with your specific formulation.

At the end of its life, take the glass bottle to glass recycling. The dropper is made of several materials and does not belong in glass recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the amount of light that gets in and so slows down the degradation of the contents caused by light. You will appreciate this with vegetable oils, essential oil blends and serums with light-sensitive active ingredients. Dark glass does not give complete protection, so the bottle should still be stored out of direct sunlight.
How much does the bottle with the dropper hold and how far should I fill it?
The bottle is intended for 50 ml of product and should be filled up to that mark. The physical volume up to the neck is larger, and its value is given in the parameters. This difference is a reserve for the immersed tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes, so it is not used for filling.
Is the bottle and dropper set suitable for contact with food?
No, the set as a whole is declared only for cosmetic products. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, but the dropper does not have this declaration. For food use of the bottle, you therefore need to choose a closure with confirmed suitability for food.
Is the dropper also suitable for essential oils and alcohol tinctures?
You can dispense them with it, but with longer storage it is recommended to monitor the condition of the silicone and plastic parts. Undiluted essential oils and products with a higher content of alcohol or solvents can soften or discolour these materials over time. The glass bottle and the glass tube of the dropper have no problem with them; any replacement concerns only the dropper.
Can the glass pharmaceutical bottle with the dropper be reused?
Yes, after washing, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and drying completely, both the bottle and the dropper can be filled again. Before reuse, check that the dropper tube is not cracked and that the bulb still draws up sufficiently. When switching to a different type of product, bear in mind that the silicone may retain the scent of the previous filling.
