Product description

A clear round plastic bottle with a capacity of 500 ml and a black ribbed pump dispenser is a ready-to-fill set for liquid and medium-viscosity cosmetic preparations that are dispensed repeatedly in small amounts. The transparent wall shows the contents and remaining volume, the ribbed pump head is easy to grip even with wet hands, and the entire packaging is lightweight and shatterproof — practical in the bathroom, in a salon, and for mail-order sales. It is particularly suitable for body lotions, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, massage oils and micellar waters — products where customers appreciate convenient one-handed dispensing.

How the set works

The bottle has a 28/410 neck thread that the pump fits directly, so there is no need to search or test for closure compatibility. The pump draws the contents through a dip tube from the bottom of the bottle and delivers approximately 1.8 ml per press, which corresponds to a standard dose of body lotion or shower gel. Dispensing is repeatable, the contents remain sealed inside the bottle, and during use they do not come into contact with fingers, reducing the risk of microbial contamination.

The pump dip tube is supplied with extra length. Before the first fill, simply cut it at an angle so that it reaches just to the bottom of the bottle. It will then dispense reliably down to the last few millilitres.

Both the bottle and the pump are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle alone additionally holds a food-contact compliance certificate; the pump does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics use.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 500 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. The total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides headspace for the pump dip tube, air above the liquid, and slight expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Always fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim — overfilling will cause the contents to overflow when the pump is screwed on.

Before the first fill, wash both the bottle and the pump, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. Prime the pump by pressing it several times before assembly and verify that it returns smoothly without sticking.

Suitable contents

The pump works best with liquid to medium-viscosity preparations. Lotions, gels, shampoos, liquid soaps and oils dispense without issue. Thick creams, butters and products with larger particles — such as sugar or salt scrubs — will clog the pump or fail to prime it. Those belong in a jar with a lid.

Clear plastic does not protect the contents from light. For light-sensitive preparations — such as oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, preparations containing vitamins, or those with colour-active extracts — dark glass or storage away from direct sunlight is more appropriate.

For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing the packaging behaviour on a trial sample before batch filling. The plastic may absorb these components over time or become discoloured.

Never fill the bottle with hot contents. Allow emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature before filling. Heat deforms the plastic and can compromise the integrity of the thread seal.

Good to know

  • Reuse – once empty, both the bottle and the pump can be washed, disinfected and refilled. Flush the dip tube by pressing a few shots of clean water through the pump and allow to dry. When switching to a different type of product — for example from an oil to a water-based gel — thorough cleaning will prevent residue contamination.
  • Labelling – the round bottle shape is suitable for a wraparound label or a smaller front panel label. Label dimensions can be found in the product parameters.
  • Shipping – for mail-order sales, it is advisable to cover the neck with a tamper-evident seal before fitting the pump, or to ship the pump separately, to prevent the contents from being forced out during transit.
  • Other closures – if a pump dispenser does not suit your needs, closures with the same neck type and other ready-to-use combinations are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and packaging behaviour with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – both the bottle and the pump are made of plastic and, once emptied and rinsed, belong in sorted plastic waste.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 500 ml plastic bottle with pump suitable for body lotion and shower gel?
Yes, the set is designed precisely for liquid and medium-viscosity preparations such as body lotions, shower gels, shampoos and liquid soaps. Each press of the pump delivers approximately 1.8 ml, which corresponds to a standard dose for showering or body care. Thick creams and butters cannot be dispensed by a pump — those belong in a jar with a lid.
Can the 500 ml bottle with pump be used for oil?
Yes, massage and body oils dispense well with this pump. However, clear plastic does not protect the contents from light, so store oxidation-sensitive oils away from direct sunlight. For oils with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend testing on a trial sample first to check whether the plastic discolours.
Why is the bottle not filled all the way to the top?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 500 ml, not to the neck. The space above the liquid provides headspace for the pump dip tube, air and slight expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Filling to the brim will cause overflow when the pump is screwed on and makes the bottle harder to close.
Is the 28/410 bottle and pump set approved for food contact?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The food-contact compliance certificate applies to the bottle alone; the pump does not hold one. If you need packaging for household oils or syrups, choose a bottle with a different closure that carries a food-grade declaration.
How do I prepare the bottle and pump before the first fill?
Wash both parts with warm water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Cut the pump dip tube at an angle to match the height of the bottle so that it reaches just to the bottom. After filling, screw on the pump and press it several times until the system is primed and begins to dispense evenly.
