Product description

A ready-to-use set for single-hand dispensing of liquid cosmetics: a clear round plastic bottle with a nominal volume of 500 ml and a matching matte black flip-top cap with a 28/410 neck finish. The clear wall reveals the colour and remaining product level; the black closure gives the packaging a simple, clean look. The set is designed for larger-volume cosmetic products – shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps or body lotions that are dispensed directly during use.

The bottle and cap share the same neck finish, so once screwed on they seal properly and the packaging is ready to fill without having to search for a matching closure.

Why choose this set

  • Easy dispensing – the flip-top opens with one finger, product is dispensed by tilting or squeezing the bottle, and the cap snaps shut again. No need to reach into the product, which is practical and more hygienic for cosmetics used in the shower.
  • Visible contents – both customer and producer can see the colour, clarity and remaining volume. The clear bottle lets coloured gels or pearlescent shampoos stand out.
  • Lightweight and unbreakable packaging – plastic withstands a drop in the bathroom and, even at larger volumes, adds minimal weight to a shipment, making it well suited for products sold online.
  • Cosmetic compatibility – both the bottle and cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Suitable applications

The flip-top works best with products of medium viscosity that flow but do not splash: shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid hand soaps, body lotions, and lighter cleansing or massage emulsions. The 500 ml volume is a family or salon size where the product is used up quickly.

Less suitable for very thin, water-based products (tonics, facial waters) that flow too freely through the flip-top, and for thick creams or butters that cannot be dispensed through the opening. Thin products are better matched with a pump or spray, while thick ones call for a jar or pot.

For thicker gels and lotions, verify that the contents dispense smoothly through the flip-top opening even after the product has cooled and fully matured – viscosity can still change during the first few days after production.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is designed under normal filling conditions – here 500 ml. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always greater. The difference provides clearance for the closure, the headspace above the product, and expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim; overfilling may cause leakage around the neck when the cap is snapped shut or the bottle is squeezed.

Good to know

Light and product stability. The clear bottle offers no protection against light. For products sensitive to light – those with a higher proportion of vegetable oils, essential oils or antioxidant actives – plan for storage away from direct sunlight, or choose a dark-coloured packaging.

Preparation before first filling. Before use, wash and disinfect both the bottle and the cap with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water would dilute the product and weaken the preservative effect.

Plastic and more aggressive ingredients. The cap is made of polypropylene (PP), which tolerates standard water-based and emulsion cosmetics well. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, check in advance whether the packaging changes shape, colour or seal integrity – ideally over several weeks with the actual formulation. This applies to plastic packaging in general.

Food contact. The bottle holds a separate declaration of compliance for direct food contact; the flip-top cap carries no such declaration. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics, not for filling foodstuffs.

Labelling. The round bottle shape accommodates a self-adhesive label on both the front and back. Apply the label to a dry, degreased surface so it does not peel in the shower.

Reuse and recycling. Both the bottle and cap can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection; a worn flip-top hinge is a sign to replace the cap. Both parts are plastic and belong in sorted plastic waste collection.

If you replace the cap with a pump or another closure type with the same 28/410 neck finish from the Handymade range, verify the seal and dispensing performance again with your specific formulation – each closure behaves differently.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear 500 ml plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, the clear bottle provides no protection against light. For standard shower gels, shampoos and liquid soaps this is generally not an issue, as they are used up quickly and stored in the bathroom away from direct sunlight. Products with a high proportion of vegetable oils, essential oils or antioxidants are better filled into dark packaging or stored away from light.
Is the bottle and flip-top 28/410 set suitable for food contact?
The set as a whole is not approved for food contact. The bottle holds a separate food-contact compliance declaration; the flip-top cap carries no such declaration. Both the bottle and cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, so the set is intended for cosmetics – shower gels, shampoos, liquid soaps and similar products.
How much product fits in a bottle with a nominal volume of 500 ml?
The bottle is designed to be filled with 500 ml of product, which is its nominal volume. The physical capacity to the neck is greater, but this difference serves as clearance for the closure, headspace above the product, and expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume; filling to the brim may cause the contents to leak when the cap is snapped shut or the bottle is squeezed.
What products can be dispensed through a flip-top cap?
The flip-top is suited to products of medium viscosity that flow but do not splash – shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps and body lotions. Very thin, water-based products flow too freely through the opening, while thick creams and butters cannot be dispensed at all. For thicker formulations, test dispensing after the product has fully cooled and matured.
Can the plastic bottle with flip-top be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and cap can be reused provided they are thoroughly washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowed to dry completely before refilling. When reusing, check the flip-top hinge and whether the cap seats properly on the neck; if it no longer seals or the hinge cracks, replace it with a new cap with the same 28/410 neck finish.
