Product description

This is a ready-made bottle and closure set: a clear round plastic bottle with a nominal volume of 1000 ml and a black moulded flip top cap with a 28/410 thread. It is ideal wherever a larger quantity of liquid product needs to be dispensed repeatedly and with one hand – typically for shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps. The transparent bottle body shows the contents and the remaining amount, the lightweight plastic will not shatter and withstands everyday handling in the bathroom, workshop or when selling in litre packaging.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. A compliance certificate for direct food contact applies to the bottle alone; the cap does not hold one – the set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetic products.

How the set works in practice

  • One-hand dispensing – the flip top opens with the thumb and the contents are dispensed by squeezing the bottle. No unscrewing required, which is appreciated with wet hands in the shower or during work.
  • Controlled flow – the cap opening releases the liquid gradually, so the product does not pour out all at once. Suitable for medium-viscosity to thick liquids that can be squeezed out.
  • Closure after use – the folded cap protects the opening from dust and limits drying of the contents between uses.
  • Transparent body – the colour, viscosity and any changes in the contents are visible, making it easy to check the fill level and useful for retail when the product should be seen.
  • Black cap – the moulded closure gives the litre packaging a consistent appearance and complements both the clear bottle and dark labels.

Which products is the set suitable for

The 1000 ml volume and flip top make this set ideal for rinse-off products and larger everyday care formats: shampoos, shower gels, liquid hand soaps, conditioners, body lotions, massage and bath oils. It also works well as a refill pack from which customers transfer the product into smaller bottles at home.

Both water-based and oil-based contents are suitable. For very thin liquids (tonics, hydrolats) the flip top is less practical – the low-viscosity liquid flows out quickly and is difficult to control. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic with the specific formulation, as certain ingredients may soften or cloud the plastic over time.

The clear bottle provides no protection from light. Products sensitive to light (unstable active ingredients, natural pigments, oils prone to oxidation) will deteriorate more quickly in it – for these, a dark container or storage away from direct light is more appropriate.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is designed under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always somewhat larger. The difference provides a headspace for the closure and for expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – an overfilled bottle is harder to close and the contents are forced under the cap when squeezed.

What is worth knowing before filling

  • Preparation – before the first fill, wash both the bottle and the cap, disinfect with izopropylalkoholom or etanolom and allow to dry completely. Water residue inside the container is a source of microbial contamination.
  • Temperature – hot filling is not suitable for a plastic bottle. Allow emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature before filling.
  • Product consistency – very thick creams are difficult to dispense from the bottle. If the product does not flow under its own weight when tilted, consider a thinner texture or a different type of packaging.
  • Reuse – the complete set can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. When changing the contents, check that no fragrance or discolouration from the previous product remains in the plastic.
  • Labelling – the rounded body requires a label that follows the curvature.
  • Recycling – once empty, both the bottle and the cap belong in the sorted plastic waste collection.

Before filling an entire batch, carry out a test with a single unit – fill it, close it, squeeze it several times and leave the bottle on its side for at least a day. This will verify the leak-tightness of the flip top with your specific formulation and whether the product dispenses as required.

Closures with the same neck type and further ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing behaviour and compatibility of the container with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 1000 ml plastic bottle with flip top cap suitable for food?
The set as a whole is not approved for food contact. The food-contact compliance certificate applies to the bottle alone; the black flip top cap does not hold one. The set is therefore intended for cosmetic products – shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps or oils. Suitability for contact with cosmetics is declared for both components.
What products can be dispensed through a flip top cap 28/410?
The flip top is suitable for medium to high-viscosity liquids that are dispensed by squeezing the bottle – shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, conditioners, body lotions and oils. Very thin liquids such as tonics or hydrolats flow through the flip top too quickly and are harder to control. Thick creams, on the other hand, are difficult to squeeze out.
Does the clear plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, the clear bottle does not protect the contents from light. Light passes through the plastic without restriction, so products containing unstable active ingredients, natural pigments or oils prone to oxidation may deteriorate more quickly. For such contents, a dark container or storage away from direct light is more appropriate.
How much liquid should be filled into a bottle with a nominal volume of 1000 ml?
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume of 1000 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference serves as headspace for the closure and for expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. An overfilled bottle is harder to close and the contents are forced under the cap when squeezed.
Can the plastic bottle with flip top cap be reused?
Yes, after thorough washing and sanitisation the set can be reused. Wash both the bottle and the cap, sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. When changing the contents, check whether the plastic has retained any scent or colour from the previous product, particularly after oils or heavily fragranced formulations.
Can the plastic bottle withstand hot-filling?
No, hot-filling a plastic bottle is not recommended. Allow emulsions, gels and liquid soaps to cool to room temperature before filling. Heat can deform the plastic, and as the hot contents cool they contract, which in a closed bottle creates negative pressure and causes the walls to buckle.
