Product description

A plastic jar with a black lid and induction liner is a ready-made complete packaging solution for thick and semi-solid products with a nominal volume of 500 ml. The clear jar shows the contents and colour of the product, the black lid with a wide thread opens comfortably, and the aluminium induction liner allows the neck to be heat-sealed, so the packaging arrives to the customer intact and without risk of leakage.

Thanks to the wide neck, it is easy to scoop from, making it ideal for body butters, scrubs, bath salts, hair and face masks, thicker creams in family sizes, or solid shampoos and bath bombs. The complete set including the liner is approved for direct contact with food, so it works equally well for honey, homemade spreads, dried herbs, or coffee scrubs with food-grade ingredients.

Key features of the set

  • Clear PET jar – the contents are visible from outside, which helps when selling coloured products and checking the amount without opening.
  • Black PP lid 100 mm – wide thread and contrasting black colour that complements both the visible contents and a custom label.
  • Induction aluminium liner – once heat-sealed, it creates a membrane at the neck that protects against leakage during shipping and serves as a tamper-evident seal.
  • Lightweight and break-resistant – plastic withstands drops in the bathroom and during shipping, which at half a litre is a significant advantage over glass.
  • Suitable for cosmetics and food – the jar, lid, and liner are declared suitable for cosmetic products and are certified for direct contact with food. The declaration of conformity is available on the product page.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the jar is intended for during normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference creates a reserve for the lid and liner and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The jar should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. For body butters and whipped textures with lower density, bear in mind that the same volume corresponds to a lower weight than salt or honey.

How the induction liner works

The liner is placed into the lid and after screwing onto the filled jar, it is sealed with an induction sealer. The device heats the aluminium layer through the lid without contact, the heat-seal layer bonds with the neck, and after unscrewing the lid a firm membrane remains on the jar. The customer tears or cuts it off, after which the lid serves for regular repeated closing.

Without an induction sealer, the liner does not seal the neck and simply rests loosely in the lid. If you do not have the device, the set works as a standard jar with a lid. For small batches, a handheld induction sealer is worthwhile, as it can handle the wide neck of this jar.

Suitable products include

  • Body butters and whipped creams – the wide neck allows comfortable scooping with fingers or a spatula, and half a litre is a standard format for family or salon packaging.
  • Scrubs and bath salts – coarse particles are easy to fill and scoop, and the sealed membrane prevents spilling during shipping.
  • Hair and face masks – thicker textures that would be difficult to dispense from a bottle with a pump.
  • Solid products – bath bombs, solid shampoos, soap balls or flakes, where the clear jar shows the colour and shape.
  • Food and home supplies – honey, spreads, nut butters, dried herbs, or tea blends; the set is certified for direct contact with food.

The wide-neck jar is not suitable for thin liquids such as tonics, oils, or hydrosols. For these, a bottle with a narrow neck and dispensing closure is more appropriate.

What is good to know when filling

Before first use, we recommend washing the jar and lid, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing them to dry completely. Handle the liner with clean gloves so that the heat-seal layer does not become contaminated.

PET is not designed for filling with hot material. Allow body butters, balms, and emulsions to cool to at least lukewarm temperature before filling, otherwise the jar may deform and the neck will no longer seal properly.

Clear plastic does not protect the contents from light. Store products with a higher proportion of sensitive oils, vitamins, or natural pigments away from direct sunlight, or supplement them with an opaque label. For formulations with a high concentration of essential oils, limonene, or solvents, we recommend running a storage test with a few units before full production, as such ingredients may cause the plastic to become dull or soft over time.

The straight clear body is suitable for a wraparound label; dimensions for the label can be found in the specifications. The black lid with a smooth top surface can also carry a circular label or stamp. Both the jar and the lid can be washed and reused after emptying; the liner is single-use.

The PET jar and PP lid belong in plastic recycling and are recycled separately after sorting. The removed induction membrane is a composite material and does not belong in plastic recycling.

Closures with the same thread type as listed in the specifications, and other ready-made combinations, are available in the Handymade range. With custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal and packaging behaviour with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 500 ml plastic jar with black lid suitable for food?
Yes, the entire set including the jar, lid, and induction liner is certified for direct contact with food. It is suitable for honey, nut butters, spreads, dried herbs, or coffee and salt scrubs with food-grade ingredients. Before filling food products, wash the packaging and allow it to dry; fill with cooled, not hot, material.
How is the induction liner sealed on the jar?
The liner is placed into the lid, the lid is screwed onto the filled jar, and the neck is passed over an induction sealer. The device heats the aluminium foil through the lid without contact, the heat-seal layer bonds with the neck, and after unscrewing a firm membrane remains on the jar. Without an induction device, the liner does not seal the neck and simply rests loosely in the lid.
How much body butter fits in the 500 ml jar?
The jar is filled to the nominal volume of 500 ml, not to the brim, to leave a reserve for the lid, liner, and expansion of the contents. The weight of the fill depends on the product's density. Whipped butters with an aerated texture weigh less for the same volume than dense balms, salt, or honey, so when declaring weight, weigh a test fill.
Can warm cream or balm be filled into a PET jar?
Not recommended — PET jars are not designed for filling with hot material. Allow balms, body butters, and emulsions to cool to at least lukewarm temperature before scooping or pouring into the jar. Hot contents may deform the wall or neck, causing the lid not to seat properly.
Does the clear jar protect the contents from light?
No, transparent PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. Store products with sensitive vegetable oils, vitamins, or natural pigments away from direct sunlight, or use an opaque wraparound label. The advantage of clear plastic, on the other hand, is that the customer can see the colour, texture, and remaining amount of the product.
Can the jar and lid be reused?
Yes, the jar and lid can be washed, disinfected, and reused for both cosmetics and food after emptying. The induction liner is single-use — after removing the membrane, replace it with a new one if you wish to seal the neck again. Before refilling, check that the thread seals properly and that the plastic is not scratched or dulled by the previous contents.
