Product description

This is a ready-made set consisting of a plastic jar with a capacity of 500 ml, a black screw cap, and an induction aluminium liner. Suitable for larger quantities of thick textures and loose blends – wherever the customer scoops the contents by hand or spoon and needs a wide mouth. The black, opaque finish protects the contents from light, which is appreciated with products containing plant oils, butters, or sensitive active ingredients. The set as a whole is approved for direct food contact as well as for use with cosmetics, so it can also be used for homemade loose blends, herb salts, or dried teas.

Key benefits

  • Wide mouth – thicker textures (butters, balms, sugar and salt scrubs) are easy to fill and scoop, without dripping and without the need for a pump.
  • Light protection – the black material blocks daylight, slowing the fading of colours and oxidation of oil components. It does not, however, replace an antioxidant or preservative in the formulation.
  • Lightweight and unbreakable – the jar is made of PET, the cap of PP. Compared to glass, it significantly reduces parcel weight and the risk of damage during shipping.
  • Induction liner – once sealed, it creates an intact membrane on the mouth, proving the packaging has not been opened, while also improving the seal.
  • Coordinated look – the black jar and cap in the same shade create a uniform appearance and work well with light or metallic labels.

How the set works

The jar and cap have the same neck thread type, so the cap seats precisely and can be repeatedly unscrewed and screwed back on. The induction liner is inserted into the cap. During filling, the cap with the liner is screwed onto the filled jar and an induction sealer heats the aluminium layer, which is welded to the mouth. After unscrewing the cap, the customer sees an intact membrane to tear off.

Sealing the membrane requires an induction sealer. Without it, the liner acts as a standard gasket in the cap. In this case, we recommend verifying the seal and behaviour with the specific formulation in advance.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the jar is intended for standard filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides a reserve for the cap with liner and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Therefore, fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise the contents will get into the thread and contaminate the sealing surface, which impairs both the seal and the membrane weld.

Suitable for products such as

  • Body butters and balms – thick anhydrous texture that the customer scoops with their fingers. The wider diameter also makes hot-filling and subsequent solidification easier.
  • Sugar and salt scrubs – granular content mixed with oil, where a narrow mouth makes no sense.
  • Hair masks and conditioners – larger family or salon pack, where light protection is valued.
  • Bath salts, loose masks, powders – opaque plastic conceals any clumping and protects colourants.
  • Food blends – herb salts, dried tea blends, coffee scrubs at the crossroads of cosmetics and food.

Good to know

Before first use, wash and disinfect both the jar and cap with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. Do not wash the induction liner – simply place it in the dry cap.

PET is resistant to both aqueous and anhydrous cosmetic bases, but concentrated essential oils and some solvents may cause long-term plastic degradation or discolouration. For products with a high proportion of fragrance materials, we recommend a stability test in the packaging for at least several weeks. Allow hot blends to cool slightly before filling. PET is not intended for filling with boiling material.

Fill butters and balms in their liquid state and leave to solidify in the open jar. If you screw on the cap too soon, a dent will form on the surface during cooling or the contents will stick to the liner.

The jar has a smooth cylindrical body, which takes wraparound and lid labels well. For recycling, the jar belongs with PET plastics and the cap with PP plastics. Discard the removed membrane together with the rest of the liner.

Ready-made packaging and closure combinations with the same neck type can be found in the Handymade range. If you are assembling your own combination, verify the seal and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 500 ml plastic jar with black cap suitable for food?
Yes, the entire set – jar, cap, and induction liner – is approved for direct food contact as well as for use with cosmetics. It is therefore suitable for herb salts, dried blends, or homemade scrubs made from food-grade ingredients. The declaration of conformity can be found with the product.
Do I need special equipment for the induction liner?
Yes, sealing the membrane to the neck requires an induction sealer, which heats the aluminium layer through the screwed-on cap. Without the device, the liner remains loosely in the cap and serves only as a gasket, not as a tamper-evidence seal. In that case, we recommend verifying the seal with the specific contents.
Does the black jar protect the contents from light?
Yes, the black opaque material blocks light and slows the fading of colourants and oxidation of oil components. This does not mean protection from heat or air. Plant oils and butters therefore still require an antioxidant, and water-containing products a preservative.
To what volume should the 500 ml plastic jar be filled?
The jar should be filled to the nominal volume of 500 ml, not to the brim. The physical volume up to the neck is larger, and this difference serves as a reserve for the cap with liner and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Overfilling will contaminate the thread and impair both the seal and the membrane weld.
Can the jar and cap be reused?
Yes, the PET jar and PP cap can be reused after washing and disinfection with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. The induction membrane is single-use. After removing it, replace it with a new liner; otherwise the set functions as a standard screw cap without tamper evidence.
Is the PET jar suitable for scrubs and balms with essential oils?
In most formulations yes – at typical fragrance dosages of a few percent, PET is stable. At high concentrations of essential oils, citrus terpenes, or solvents, the plastic may soften or become discoloured. We therefore recommend a stability test of several weeks in the specific packaging.
