Product description

A transparent plastic jar with a white lid, 1 l is a ready-made set of three parts: a transparent PET jar, a white screw-on lid and a sealing membrane that is inserted into the lid. Suitable for packaging larger quantities of cosmetics and raw materials – body butters and creams, salt and sugar scrubs, bath salts, powder masks, clays and dried herbs. The transparent wall shows the contents, the wide neck makes filling and scooping easy, and the membrane helps keep the contents in the jar without leaking or drying out.

The set is approved for direct contact with food and also declared suitable for cosmetic products. It can therefore be used equally for home-made muesli, dried fruit, pulses or herb blends as for cosmetic preparations. Declarations of conformity for the individual components are listed with the product.

What the set is suitable for

  • Scrubs and bath salts – the wide neck allows comfortable scooping with a spoon or by hand, the seal prevents salts and sugars from absorbing moisture from the air.
  • Body butters and thick creams – the 1 l volume is suitable for larger family or salon packaging, or as a production stock before filling into smaller jars.
  • Powder products – clays, powder masks or effervescent powders need a dry environment, which the sealing membrane helps to maintain.
  • Raw materials and semi-finished goods – waxes, pastilles, granules, soap flakes or dried plant ingredients are stored neatly, with contents visible at a glance.
  • Food – nuts, dried fruits, cereals, teas and spices, as all three components of the set are suitable for direct contact with food.

How the set works

The PET jar is lightweight and clear, so the contents are always visible and the jar presents well on a display counter. The polypropylene lid screws onto the wide neck with the thread specified in the parameters. The polyethylene membrane is inserted into the lid as a sealing insert. When tightened, it presses against the rim of the neck, smooths out minor irregularities and improves the seal. This is particularly useful for scrubs with an oil component, for more liquid creams and for loose products that need to stay dry.

When filling, it is useful to distinguish between nominal and total volume. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the jar is designed for normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve so that the contents do not push out the membrane when screwing on the lid and have room to expand with temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Thick creams and butters are easier to fill into the wide jar when still slightly fluid, but not hot. The jar should be protected from heat, so allow the emulsion or butter to cool to approximately room temperature before filling.

Good to know

Preparation before first use. We recommend washing the jar and lid with warm water and a mild detergent, rinsing, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving to dry completely. The membrane only needs to be disinfected and dried; it is inserted into the lid only when fully dry.

Material sensitivity. PET tolerates water-based, emulsion and oil-based contents well. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, solvents or for anhydrous preparations with a higher alcohol content, we recommend testing the jar's behaviour with the specific formulation to ensure the wall does not become cloudy or soft. Do not expose the jar to heat or aggressive chemicals.

Leak-tightness during transport. The screw lid with membrane seals well under normal conditions. For shipments with more liquid contents, it is advisable to test the seal on one unit filled with the actual product, or to add tape to the closure.

Labelling. The straight wall of the jar offers plenty of space for a label around the circumference.

Closures and combinations. The set is already assembled, but lids with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend testing the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Recycling. The jar belongs in plastic recycling as PET, the lid as PP and the membrane as polyethylene. Before disposal, simply empty the packaging and separate the parts.

The transparent wall does not protect the contents from light. Products with sensitive ingredients, such as those with a high proportion of unsaturated oils, vitamins or essential oils, should be stored away from direct sunlight or packed in opaque packaging.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 1 l plastic jar with lid suitable for food?
Yes, the complete set is approved for direct contact with food. The jar, lid and sealing membrane each have their own declaration of conformity for both food-grade and cosmetic quality, so the set is equally suitable for dried foods, nuts, teas and spices as for scrubs, salts and creams. Documentation for the individual components is listed with the product.
What is the membrane in the jar lid for?
The membrane is a sealing insert that is placed inside the lid and, when tightened, presses against the rim of the neck. It smooths out minor irregularities between the lid and the jar, improves the seal and helps keep the contents dry or prevent the oil component from seeping through. It is particularly valuable for scrubs, salts, powder masks and more liquid creams.
How much can actually be filled into the 1 l jar?
The jar is designed for the nominal volume, i.e. the quantity for normal filling. The physical volume to the brim of the neck is slightly larger, but the difference serves as a reserve for the membrane, the lid and the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim, so that the contents do not push out the seal when the lid is screwed on.
Can hot cream or butter be filled into the PET jar?
No, hot filling is not recommended for PET jars. Allow the emulsion, body butter or melted mixture to cool to approximately room temperature before filling; thick products can be filled while still soft but no longer hot. Heat may deform the wall of the jar and affect the tightness of the thread.
Can the 1 l plastic jar be reused?
Yes, if the jar, lid and membrane are undamaged, they can be washed and filled again. Before each new fill, wash the packaging, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. After washing, check the membrane; if it is deformed or has absorbed oil, replace it, as it may no longer seal properly.
