Product description

Stabilo cotton wick without sustainer tab is a high-quality wick designed for reliable and stable burning of candles made from various wax blends. Thanks to the use of cotton without additional metal parts, it is suitable for artisanal and small-scale candle production, where emphasis is placed on clean burning and easy processing. It represents a practical “packaging” component for candle projects, which complements bottles, jars, pots or other containers into which candles are poured.

Possible uses

  • Production of decorative candles in glass bottles, glasses and jars
  • Creating natural candles in ceramic, concrete or metal containers
  • Soy, palm, rapeseed, beeswax and blended waxes intended for container candles
  • Aromatherapeutic candles with essential oils and fragrances in designer pots
  • Production of smaller test candles for trying new fragrances and wax formulations

Packaging advantages

  • Material stability – cotton fibres ensure even burning and good conduction of the molten wax to the flame.
  • Cleaner burning – the absence of a sustainer tab and metal parts reduces the risk of undesirable impurities during combustion.
  • Universal use – suitable for various types of candle containers (bottles, pots, jars, glasses) depending on the chosen wax and candle diameter.
  • Easy trimming and adjustment – the wick can be easily cut to the desired length according to the depth of the container and the candle design.
  • Design flexibility – suitable for minimalist as well as designer candles, where both the appearance of the container and the quality of the flame are important.

Combining with closures and dispensers

The cotton wick without sustainer tab is intended for use together with containers and pots into which the candle is poured. Candle containers (glass bottles, jars, pots and other “packaging”) are compatible with various types of closures depending on the specific product – this allows you to create candles with a lid (for example screw caps or push-on lids) that protect the surface of the candle during storage and transport. The packaging and closure combinations created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test (sealing, behaviour of the material during candle burning and interaction of the wax with the inner surface of the packaging).

Technical parameters

All technical parameters of the packaging are specified in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.

FAQ – Most frequent questions

How do I choose the correct length and number of cotton wicks for my candle container?

Adjust the length of the cotton wick to the depth of the container so that after pouring the wax and the candle has solidified, approximately 5–7 mm of wick remains above the wax surface at the first lighting. For wider containers, it is often more appropriate to use several wicks of smaller diameter rather than one very thick wick – this improves the evenness of wax melting and reduces the risk of tunneling. We recommend creating test candles in the same packaging in which you plan to produce the final product and testing the flame behaviour throughout the entire burn.

Is it possible to combine this cotton wick with different types of waxes?

The cotton wick can be used with several types of waxes (for example vegetable waxes, paraffin blends, etc.), but we always recommend creating a trial series of candles in the specific container, with your wax and fragrance. Different waxes, colourants and fragrances can change the burning behaviour – therefore it is necessary to test not only the wick itself but also its behaviour in the selected bottle, jar or pot in which the candle will actually be used.

Can I reuse the containers into which I pour candles with this wick?

The containers and packaging into which you pour candles (glass bottles, jars, pots or glasses) can be reused if hygiene principles are observed. After the candle has burned out, remove the residual wax, any adhesive used for fixing the wick, and thoroughly clean the inner surface. Before the next filling, it is advisable not only to wash the packaging but also to disinfect it with an appropriate agent, for example IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based, in order to reduce the risk of surface contamination. Packaging prepared in this way is then ready for further safe use in candle production.

How can I safely dispose of or recycle the packaging after the candle has burned out?

If you decide not to reuse the containers after the candle has burned out, we recommend recycling them according to the material specified in the parameters of the specific packaging. Glass bottles and jars belong, after removal of wax residues, in the glass container, plastic packaging in the separate collection of plastics, and metal lids or sleeves in the appropriate fraction of metal waste, if marked as such. Before placing in separate collection, remove wax residues and labels to facilitate the recycling process and minimise residual waste.

You offer many types of packaging – how can I find the right one for my product?

To select suitable packaging, you can use the advanced filter located at the top of the page after clicking on the chosen packaging category. In the advanced filter it is possible to combine several criteria at once – for example neck type, size, colour and packaging material. Thanks to this, you can quickly choose an appropriate bottle, jar or pot for your candles or other products and easily combine them with wicks and accessories according to your needs.
