Product description

The wooden wick .04 Booster crackling with metal stand is a flat wick for container candles that gently crackles like a fireplace while burning. Unlike a standard single-layer wooden wick, it features an added booster layer that promotes a more stable flame and more reliable ignition. The package also includes a metal stand that holds the wick upright on the bottom of the container, so nothing extra needs to be purchased to make a container candle.

Why choose a crackling wooden wick

  • Crackling during burn – the wick belongs to the manufacturer's crackling series. The candle engages not only through scent and light, but also with a sound that evokes a fireplace.
  • Booster layer – the wick consists of a main tab and a thin reinforcing strip. The two-layer construction aids easier ignition and a more stable flame.
  • Wide, low flame – the flat wick burns wide rather than tall, helping to melt the wax pool evenly across the full width of the container.
  • Natural material – the wick is made from certified wood. The manufacturer describes it as natural, allergen-free and biodegradable.
  • Stand included – the metal stem with a round base holds the wick upright during pouring and curing. Compatible with straight, double and cross wooden wicks.

How to work with the wick

Attach the stand to the centre of the container base using a wick sticker or a small amount of hot glue. Insert the wick into the stand so it stands straight, then pour the wax at the temperature recommended by the wax manufacturer. During setting, check that the wick has remained upright. A tilted tab will later burn unevenly and cause the container to overheat on one side.

Once the wax has set completely, trim the wick just above the wax surface. Do not use cotton wick scissors; instead, snap it off or use wooden wick trimmers to produce a clean, straight edge. Before each subsequent lighting, remove the charred tip left from the previous burn. If a thick carbon layer remains on the wick, the flame will be small and the candle will smoke.

Trim the wooden wick to only a few millimetres above the set wax surface. A longer wick produces a tall, unsteady flame and soot; a wick that is too short will drown in the melted wax and go out. Fine-tune the exact height through a test burn in the specific container and wax you are using.

Useful information for candle making

  • Choosing the wick for the container – the right combination of wick, wax and container cannot be determined from dimensions alone. A test burn is always necessary: observe whether the melt pool reaches the container walls, whether the flame smokes and whether the glass overheats.
  • First burn – wooden wicks require a longer first burn to establish a full-diameter melt pool. If the candle is extinguished too soon, the wax will "remember" a narrower tunnel and subsequent burns will not widen the pool.
  • Wax and fragrance oil – wick behaviour changes with the type of wax (soy, coconut, rapeseed, blends) and the fragrance load. The designation .04 indicates the tab thickness according to the manufacturer; a higher number means a thicker tab and generally a stronger flame.
  • Container candles – the wick and stand are intended for container candles; the stand is adhered to the base of the container.
  • Intended use – the set is intended for candle making. It is not declared for contact with food or cosmetic preparations.
  • After the candle burns out – the metal stand remains adhered to the base of the container. When cleaning the container for reuse, simply warm the remaining wax and peel the stand off.

Never leave a burning candle unattended and do not light it once the wax level has dropped close to the base of the container. In the final stages of burning, the base may overheat and the glass may crack.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a wooden wick crackle when burning?
Crackling is a natural property of a burning wooden wick, not a defect. The .04 Booster wick belongs to the manufacturer's crackling series, so the sound is part of its character. The intensity of crackling varies with the wax and with how cleanly the wick has been trimmed; a thick carbon layer at the tip dampens both the sound and the flame.
How high should a wooden wick sit above the wax?
A wooden wick should stand only a few millimetres above the set wax surface. A wick that is too long produces a tall flame and soot; one that is too short will drown in the melted wax and go out. Before each lighting, remove the charred tip and fine-tune the height for the specific wax and container through a test burn.
Why does the wooden wick light poorly or go out?
The most common causes are a wick that is too long, a thick carbon buildup, or the wick drowning in melted wax. Wood ignites more slowly than cotton, so hold the lighter flame at the wick for several seconds until it catches across its full width. If the wick repeatedly goes out even after trimming, it is likely too weak for that particular wax or container, and a thicker tab or a different wax should be tried.
Which waxes is the .04 Booster wooden wick suitable for?
The crackling wick with booster layer is used in container candles made with soy, coconut, rapeseed wax and their blends. The specific combination of wax, container and wick must always be verified through a test burn, as performance varies even between waxes of the same type and changes with the fragrance load.
What is the metal stand for and how is it attached?
The metal stand keeps the flat wooden wick upright on the base of the container during pouring, setting and burning. It is attached to the centre of the base using a wick sticker or hot glue, and the wick is then inserted into it. The stand with a round base is suitable for straight, double and cross wooden wicks and remains on the container base after the candle has burned out.
