Product description

The Booster Crackling Wood Wick with a width of 25.4 mm is a flat wick for container candles that gently crackles when burning. It consists of a wooden lamella reinforced with a booster layer.

It is supplied as a complete set with a metal stand that holds the wick upright on the bottom of the container. Simply insert the wick into the stand, place it in the container and pour the wax.

What makes the wick interesting

  • Crackling when burning – this wick belongs to the crackling wood wick series. The intensity of the sound depends on the wax, the amount of fragrance and dye, so it varies between formulations.
  • Booster layer – the lamella is reinforced with a layer referred to as a booster, which gives the series its name.
  • Thicker .04 lamella – the number is the manufacturer's designation for lamella thickness. A higher number means a thicker lamella.
  • Stand included – the round metal stand is designed for flat wood wicks. It is suitable for straight, double and cross wicks.
  • Wood from certified sources – the wick is made from certified wood. According to the manufacturer, it is natural, allergen-free and biodegradable.

Use in candle making

The wick is intended for container pour candles. Insert it into the stand and place it in the centre of the container base. It is recommended to secure the stand so it does not shift during wax pouring.

The wick length is a reserve: once the wax has set, trim the wick just above the surface. The wood can be cut with wire cutters or sturdy scissors.

The correct wick width cannot be determined by container diameter alone. The type of wax, fragrance oil content and dye all play a role. A test burn of the finished candle is recommended before producing a larger batch.

Good to know

During a test burn, check whether the wax pool melts all the way to the edge of the container, how high the flame is and whether the wick produces soot. If the wax only melts in the centre and a tunnel forms, the wick is too weak for that container. If the flame is tall, restless and the container heats up significantly, the wick is too strong.

A higher proportion of fragrance oil or dye changes how the wick burns. A candle that burned reliably with one fragrance should be tested again after a fragrance change.

A common cause of extinguishing is a wick that is too long. The flame then cannot reach the wax and the wood simply chars. When lighting, it helps to hold the flame near the wood a little longer and draw it across the full width of the lamella.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the Booster wood wick crackle when burning?
The Booster Crackling Wood Wick belongs to a series of wicks that crackle when burning, and its lamella is reinforced with a booster layer. The volume is not the same for every candle. It is influenced by the type of wax, the amount of fragrance oil and dye, and how the wick is trimmed. With a new formulation, it is therefore worth verifying the sound with a test burn.
What candle is the 25.4 mm wood wick suitable for?
The 25.4 mm wood wick is designed for container pour candles. The exact container size cannot be stated universally, as burning depends on the wax, fragrance and dye. A reliable answer comes from a test burn, in which the wax pool should melt all the way to the edge of the container without an excessively high flame.
What does the .04 designation on a wood wick mean?
The .04 designation indicates the lamella thickness of the wood wick according to the manufacturer's labelling. A higher number means a thicker lamella. When selecting a wick, two parameters are therefore considered: wick width and lamella thickness. Which combination suits a particular candle is determined by a test burn with the given wax, fragrance and dye.
Why does the wood wick in a candle go out?
A wood wick frequently goes out because it is too long or has a layer of charred wood at the tip. Another cause may be a wick that is too weak for the container and wax, or a high proportion of fragrance or dye. Trimming the wick and removing the burnt edge before the next lighting helps, so that the flame burns on clean wood.
Does the Booster wood wick come with a stand?
Yes, the Booster wood wick is supplied as a complete set with a round metal stand for flat wood wicks. The stand holds the lamella upright on the container base, so the wick remains straight during wax pouring. A separate stand does not need to be purchased. Before pouring, it is recommended to secure the stand to the base to keep the wick centred in the candle.
