Product description

A black plastic jar, 300 ml with a black lid is a complete set ready for filling thicker cosmetic preparations and homemade food products. The jar is made of lightweight and durable PET, the lid from PP, and the set also includes an aluminium induction insert that after sealing closes the contents tightly with visible tamper evidence. The opaque black packaging protects the contents from light, which is appreciated with oil-based ingredients, butters, and sensitive active substances that degrade more quickly when exposed to light.

The set is approved for use with cosmetics and for direct food contact. It is suitable for solid and thick preparations that are scooped with fingers or a spatula, as well as for dry or paste-like homemade food products.

What the set consists of and how to work with it

The set has three parts that fit together without the need to remove the closure separately. The jar with a wide neck and low profile is easily filled with a spatula or spoon, and the customer can also reach the contents with their fingers, which is important with butters and scrubs. The lid screws onto the thread and holds its shape even with repeated opening. The induction insert is a layered disc of paper, PET film, and aluminium that is placed into the lid before screwing it on.

Sealing takes place in an induction sealing device. After screwing on the lid, the set is placed against the induction head, the aluminium layer heats up, and the heat-seal layer welds the film to the jar neck. The result is a sealed package where the customer can immediately see at first glance whether it has already been opened. Without a sealing device, the insert remains loosely in the lid and serves only as a separating layer between the contents and the lid, not as a tamper-evident seal.

The jar neck must be clean and dry before sealing. Residues of butter or cream on the rim prevent the film from bonding, and the seal can then be peeled off without resistance. For the first batch, we recommend testing the power and time settings on a few pieces and checking the seal by peeling.

Suitable for products such as

  • Body butters and whipped butters – the wide neck allows scooping the contents directly from the jar, and the volume corresponds to a standard pack for several weeks of use.
  • Body scrubs – sugar, salt, and coffee scrubs are easily scooped from the low jar right to the bottom.
  • Thick creams and masks – clay masks in powder form, mud wraps, and nourishing creams applied with a spatula.
  • Bath salts and dry blends – the induction seal prevents spillage during transport and protects the salt from moisture.
  • Homemade food products – nut butters, spices, dried herbs, cocoa mixes, and similar products that benefit from the food contact approval.

The set is less suitable for liquid products that are dispensed by drops or sprayed. For those, bottles with a dropper or spray cap from the Handymade range are available.

Nominal and total volume

When filling, it is useful to distinguish between two figures. The nominal volume is the amount the container is designed for at normal filling, and that is the figure stated in the name and specifications. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity right up to the neck and is always larger. The difference is an intentional reserve for the lid with insert and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes – for example, when whipped butter expands slightly in a warm bathroom. The jar should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If filled right up to the neck, the contents would encroach on the area where the induction film is to be welded.

What is good to know

Before first filling, we recommend washing and disinfecting both the jar and the lid with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving them to dry completely. Induction inserts are not washed – they are inserted clean directly from the packaging.

PET is not designed for filling with hot contents. Whipped butters, balms, and creams should be filled into the jar only after cooling to room temperature; otherwise there is a risk of wall deformation and the contents may separate from the wall after solidifying. For the same reason, the jar is also not suitable for products with a high proportion of pure essential oils or solvents. At standard fragrance dosages in butters and scrubs, no problem arises; for more concentrated blends, we recommend checking the container's behaviour on a test piece.

The lid continues to close the jar for everyday use after the seal has been opened, but it is not designed for liquid contents that could spill when the jar is turned upside down. On a black container, a label with a light background or direct printing is clearly legible.

Closures with the same neck type as the jar, and ready-made container + closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal integrity and container behaviour with the specific formulation.

The approval for direct food contact and cosmetics covers all three components of the set – the jar, the lid, and the induction insert. The same packaging can therefore be used across a product range that combines cosmetics with homemade food products, without having to stock two types of packaging.

The PET jar and PP lid are recycled as plastic after use. We recommend separating the induction insert before disposal, as it is a composite material containing aluminium.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need special equipment for the induction insert in the 300 ml jar set?
Yes, an induction sealing device is required to seal the induction insert. The aluminium layer of the insert is heated inside the device, and the heat-seal layer welds the film to the jar neck. Without the device, the insert remains loosely in the lid and serves only as a separating layer, not as a tamper-evident seal.
Is the 300 ml plastic jar with black lid suitable for food?
Yes, the set is approved for direct food contact for all three components – the jar, the lid, and the induction insert. It is suitable for nut butters, spices, dried herbs, or dry blends. The declaration of conformity is available with the product.
Can I fill the 300 ml jar with body butter that is still warm?
No, the contents should be filled only after cooling to room temperature. The jar is made of PET, which can deform with hot contents, and the solidified butter may then separate from the wall. Whipped butters are best filled after whipping, when they have already reached their final temperature and texture.
Does the black 300 ml jar protect the contents from light?
Yes, both the black jar and the lid are opaque and protect the contents from light. This is an advantage for oil-based ingredients, butters, and active substances that oxidise more quickly when exposed to light. The downside is that the customer cannot see the contents, so it is worth describing the product's appearance on the label.
Why is the 300 ml jar not filled to the brim?
The jar is filled to the nominal volume stated in the name, because the space above it is a reserve for the lid with induction insert and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If the contents reach up to the neck, they encroach on the area where the film is to be welded, and the seal may not hold.
Can the 300 ml jar with lid be reused?
Yes, both the jar and the lid can be reused after washing and disinfecting. The induction insert is single-use. After the seal is opened, it is removed, and a new one is inserted for refilling. When reusing, we recommend checking that the lid still sits firmly on the thread.
