Product description

This blue glass bottle with a capacity of 50 ml and a black spray head is a ready-made set for your own sprays: facial mists, toners, hydrosols, hair sprays or fresheners for textiles and interiors. The blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, helping to protect ingredients sensitive to its effects – for example hydrosols, water-based solutions with active substances, or alcohol-based preparations with essential oils. The spray head disperses the contents into a fine mist, so it is applied evenly and without the hands touching the product. The smoke-tinted cap protects the nozzle from dust and accidental pressing and completes the dark bottle in a unified look.

The set, as well as both of its parts separately, are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

Why choose this set

  • Protection from light – blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, which slows the breakdown of light-sensitive ingredients and helps keep the scent and effectiveness of the contents for longer.
  • Glass does not react with the contents – the bottle can be filled with both water-based and alcohol-based preparations, including blends with essential oils, which could over time damage or cloud a plastic bottle.
  • A fine mist instead of a stream – the spray head releases a small dose with each press, so the product is not wasted and the layer on the skin, hair or textile is thin and even.
  • A ready, tested combination – the spray head is matched to the neck of the bottle, so you do not have to worry about thread compatibility or search separately for a suitable closure. In the e-shop you will also find other ready-made closure combinations for a bottle with the same type of neck.
  • Practical format – 50 ml fits into a handbag or travel pouch and at the same time is enough for several weeks of regular use of a facial mist.

What products the set is suitable for

The spray head works best with thin, watery contents. It is therefore suitable for hydrosols and floral waters, facial and body mists, toners both without and with alcohol, hair sprays for easier detangling, textile sprays, pillow scents, natural air fresheners or alcohol-based hand sanitiser sprays.

Conversely, oils, thicker serums and emulsions are not suitable for this type of closure. Oil will not be dispersed into a mist in the nozzle, it comes out in droplets or as a stream and the mechanism quickly clogs. For oil-based products a bottle with a dropper or a pump is more suitable.

If you want to get a small amount of oil or essential oils into the spray, you first need to dissolve them in the water base using a solubiliser (for example Polysorbate 20 or Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate). Undissolved oil would separate in the bottle and the spray head would not be able to dose it evenly.

Nominal and total volume

With packaging you will come across two volume figures. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling – 50 ml for this bottle. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume all the way to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference between them is a reserve for the tube and the spray mechanism, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and also for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise part of the contents is pushed out when the spray head is fitted and the thread gets dirty.

What is good to know when working with the set

Before the first filling, wash and disinfect both the bottle and the spray head – it is enough to rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Moisture left in the bottle would dilute the contents and unnecessarily burden the preservative system.

After filling, first press the spray head several times "empty" until the tube and nozzle fill up and an even mist starts to come out. The first presses release only air – that is normal, not a fault.

Glass handles ordinary temperature differences, but it does not like a sudden change in temperature. Pour a hydrosol from the fridge or a hot solution into a bottle at room temperature and never put it in the freezer. The spray head is made of plastic, so do not use hot water on it – alcohol and drying are enough.

The spray head's tube reaches all the way to the bottom of the bottle, so you use up all the contents. Store the bottle neck up, so that the contents do not flow into the nozzle; with salt solutions it could crystallise there.

Water-based contents (hydrosols, toners, mists) need preservation. The blue packaging alone slows the effect of light, but does not prevent the multiplication of microorganisms. With each refill, clean and disinfect the bottle again.

When recycling, the glass goes with glass and the spray head with plastics – unscrew it from the bottle before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Is the blue glass bottle with a spray head suitable for hydrosols and facial mists?
Yes, hydrosols and facial mists are the most typical use for this set. The watery contents are dispersed into a fine mist in the spray head and the blue glass at the same time reduces the light that is harmful to hydrosols. Hydrosols, however, are not self-preserving – if you make or dilute them yourself, they need to be preserved and the bottle disinfected before filling.
Can oil be poured into the glass bottle with a spray head?
No, neither pure oil nor an oil serum belong in the spray head. Oil will not be dispersed into a mist in the nozzle, it comes out in droplets and the mechanism clogs. If you want to have oil in a spray, incorporate it into a water base using a solubiliser so that a clear, thin liquid is created. For oils on their own, a bottle with a dropper or a pump is more suitable.
Why is the 50 ml glass bottle not filled all the way to the brim?
Because once the spray head is fitted, its tube and mechanism take up part of the space and the contents need a reserve for expansion when the temperature changes. The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the packaging is designed for; the total volume to the brim is larger and this difference serves as a reserve. If you overfill the bottle, part of the contents is pushed out through the thread when screwing it on.
Is the blue glass bottle with a spray head suitable for alcohol-based sprays, for example hand sanitiser or eau de parfum?
Yes, glass does not react with alcohol or with essential oils, so the blue bottle is also suitable for alcohol-based solutions, eaux de parfum and sanitiser sprays. The spray head is designed for thin contents and doses alcohol-based solutions evenly. With strongly aromatic blends we recommend dedicating the bottle to one type of content, because the plastic parts can partly absorb the scent.
How is the glass bottle with a spray head cleaned and can it be used repeatedly?
Yes, the set is designed for repeated use. Wash the bottle with warm water, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry bottom up. Rinse the spray head by immersing the tube in alcohol or clean water and pressing it several times, then let it dry. Do not use hot water or aggressive solvents to clean the plastic.
Does blue glass protect the contents as well as brown glass?
Both blue and brown glass reduce light, but brown glass filters a wider part of the spectrum, including UV. The blue bottle is a good choice for ordinary cosmetic sprays, hydrosols and toners that are used up over the course of weeks and are not stored in direct sunlight. For contents that are particularly sensitive to UV radiation and that are meant to stay stable for a long time, brown glass or storage in the dark is safer.
