Product description

This amber plastic medicine bottle, 30 ml, with a black fine mist sprayer and a smoky overcap is a set for toners, hydrosols and facial mists that need protection from light and application as a fine mist. Amber PET dampens light, so it protects contents with active ingredients, hydrosols and scented waters. The bottle is light and, unlike glass, does not break, so it is ideal for a handbag, for travel or for a sports bag.

With each press, the sprayer releases a small amount of liquid as a fine mist. This suits products that are applied over a larger area in a small dose, for example on the face, hair or décolleté. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suited for

The sprayer is designed for thin, water-like contents. With these it produces an even mist and does not drip. The most common uses:

  • Facial toners and mists – water-based solutions with moisturising or soothing ingredients, applied by spraying without your hands touching the skin.
  • Hydrosols – they are sensitive to light, and an amber bottle protects them better than a clear one.
  • Hair sprays and refreshers – water-based or lightly alcohol-based products for detangling, shine or refreshing a hairstyle.
  • Scented waters and alcohol-based products – the 30 ml volume also works as a travel size of a favourite fragrance.
  • Samples and test batches – a small amount for trying out a recipe before making a larger pack.

The sprayer does not atomise thick oils, emulsions and gels well. The nozzle clogs, the mist turns into a stream and the contents run down the neck. For such products, a bottle with a different type of closure is more suitable.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger, because it also includes the space up to the neck. The difference is a reserve for the sprayer dip tube, the closure and the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. After the sprayer is screwed on, the level rises, because the dip tube displaces part of the volume.

The sprayer dip tube is longer than the height of the bottle. Before first use, shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it reaches just above the bottom. The sprayer will then use up almost all of the contents and can be screwed on comfortably.

Good to know

Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle and the sprayer, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting them dry completely. Moisture in the packaging shortens the shelf life of water-based products even when a preservative is used.

PET withstands common cosmetic water-based and alcohol-based products without problems. However, it is not suitable for undiluted essential oils and strong solvents, which can damage the plastic over time. For contents with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend testing how the packaging behaves on one bottle before you fill the whole batch. Fill only with contents that have cooled down, as heat deforms PET.

Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The sprayer does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and we do not recommend it for food use.

The bottle can be reused. After emptying it, rinse it, pump clean water through the sprayer and let both parts dry. If you replace the sprayer with another closure, choose it according to the neck finish given in the parameters. You will find other closures and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation.

The bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of PP. Before disposal, unscrew them from each other and place them in the plastic recycling bin.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 30 ml plastic bottle with a sprayer suitable for hydrosols and toners?
Yes, water-based and lightly alcohol-based products are the most suitable contents for this set. Amber PET dampens the light that harms hydrosols, and the sprayer applies them as a fine mist without your hands touching the skin. When filling, fill only up to the nominal volume to leave a reserve, and shorten the dip tube to the height of the bottle.
Can I apply oil or an oil serum with this sprayer?
The sprayer partly pumps thin oils, but the mist is often uneven and the nozzle clogs quickly. Thicker oils and emulsions do not pass through at all. For oil-based products, we recommend combining the bottle with a different closure, for example a dropper or a pump, and keeping the sprayer for water-based contents.
Does the amber PET bottle protect the contents from light completely?
The amber colour significantly dampens the passage of light, so the contents stay more stable than in a clear bottle. However, it does not replace storage in the dark. We therefore recommend keeping a bottle with sensitive contents, for example vitamin C or hydrosols, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Can I use the set for food, for example for cooking oil in the kitchen?
No, the set as a whole is not declared for food contact. Only the amber bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the sprayer does not have one. The combination of bottle and sprayer is therefore intended for cosmetic products. For food use, choose a bottle with a different closure that has a food-contact certificate.
How much liquid actually fits in the bottle and why is it not filled to the brim?
The bottle is designed for 30 ml, which is its nominal volume. The space above this level is a reserve for the sprayer dip tube, the closure and the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If it were filled to the brim, the contents would be pushed out through the neck when the sprayer is screwed on, which could affect the seal.
