Blue Plastic Bottle, Golden Flip Top, 250 ml

Plastic bottle, blue, gold flip top, 250 ml combines a lightweight PET bottle with a volume of 250 ml and a gold disc top cap to form ready-made packaging for liquid to medium-thick cosmetic products. The product is dispensed by squeezing the bottle, and you open the outlet with one finger. The set therefore works well in the shower and at the sink, where the packaging is picked up with wet hands several times a day.

The blue tint of the plastic hides the contents from the outside and filters part of the light, which helps with preparations containing vegetable oils and extracts. PET does not shatter and weighs little, so the bottle holds up well when travelling and when shipping finished products. Both components are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle on its own also has a certificate for direct food contact, but the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How the disc top cap works

The cap has a hinged disc on top. Pressing one side of the disc opens the dispensing opening on the opposite side, and pressing it again closes it. You control the amount of product by how hard you squeeze the bottle, and there is nothing to unscrew or flip open. The cap combines polypropylene (PP) with aluminium in a gold finish, and the centre of the cap is clear.

A disc top works best with products that flow but are not completely watery. You can squeeze out a gel, shampoo or body lotion smoothly, and nothing leaks once the disc is closed. Very thin solutions may drip after the disc is opened, and thick creams and body butters will not pass through the opening.

What it is suitable for

• Shampoos and shower gels – the 250 ml volume matches a common shower-size pack, and the cap can be operated with a wet hand.
• Conditioners and body lotions – a disc top can handle thicker emulsions as long as they stay fluid and can be squeezed out when the bottle is pressed.
• Liquid soaps and cleansing gels – for the sink, where a product is dispensed often and in small amounts.
• Massage, body and cleansing oils – oil flows easily through the disc, and a gentle squeeze of the bottle is enough.

Toners, hydrosols and hair tonics are easier to apply with a fine mist sprayer, while thick creams suit a jar better. Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total volume of the bottle up to the neck is larger. The difference between the two provides room for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes, and it also allows you to squeeze the bottle without the product spraying out. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Good to know

Concentrated essential oils, undiluted fragrance compositions and solvents may damage the plastic over time. In ordinary cosmetics the fragrance components are diluted and do not cause a problem. For formulations with a high proportion of alcohol or fragrance ingredients, check compatibility with PET and PP on a sample. Do not expose the bottle to aggressive chemicals.

When transporting filled bottles, for example in luggage or in a parcel, bear in mind that the disc may open under pressure on the bottle. For this reason, test beforehand whether the bottle stays leak-proof lying on its side with your formulation.

After thorough washing and drying, both the bottle and the cap can be reused, preferably for the same type of product. When sorting waste, the bottle belongs with PET, while the cap combines PP and aluminium, so separate it from the bottle beforehand.
