Product description

The blue 250 ml PET bottle and aluminium cap form a ready-made packaging set for liquid and slightly thicker cosmetic products that are dispensed by pouring. The blue tint of the plastic filters part of the light reaching the contents, and PET is lightweight and shatter-resistant, so the bottle can be used in the bathroom or while travelling without the risk of broken glass. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The 250 ml volume matches the usual size of a toner, facial or body water, massage oil, micellar water, or a thinner shampoo and shower gel.

Bottle and cap together

The bottle has a 24/410 neck finish, for which the aluminium cap is designed. The cap has a silver aluminium shell and an EPE liner inside, which sits against the neck when tightened and seals the bottle against leaking. The contents are dispensed by unscrewing the cap and pouring into the palm or onto a cotton pad. The set is therefore suitable for products where you do not need drop-by-drop dispensing or spraying.

Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The aluminium cap does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Toners and facial waters – water-based and hydrosol products applied with a pad or into the palm.
  • Body and massage oils – PET withstands common vegetable oils, and the blue colour filters part of the light.
  • Micellar waters and make-up removers – thinner liquids for which a screw closure is sufficient.
  • Shampoos and shower gels with a thinner consistency that can be poured out without squeezing the bottle.
  • Semi-finished products and stock – hydrosol, oil or water phase set aside before further processing in the workshop.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 250 ml is the volume the bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The volume to the brim of the neck is larger. The difference is a reserve that leaves room for the cap and for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is filled to the brim, the contents are pushed onto the thread when the cap is tightened, which impairs the seal.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely with the neck facing down. The same procedure applies for repeated use. When you change the formulation, it is worth replacing at least the cap, because the liner may retain the scent of the previous contents.

Do not fill the bottle with hot contents. PET may deform at higher temperatures, so let emulsions and aqueous solutions cool to approximately room temperature before filling.

PET withstands common cosmetic oils, hydrosols, aqueous solutions and emulsions without problems. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic behaves with your specific formulation. It is enough to fill one bottle and observe for several weeks whether the plastic turns cloudy, softens, or whether the scent of the contents changes.

After filling, tighten the cap by hand without excessive force and turn the bottle upside down for a moment. If the thread stays dry, the liner is seated correctly.

The 24/410 neck finish is a widespread standard, so the cap can be replaced with another closure with the same neck type from the Handymade range. The bottle is made of PET, which is commonly recycled. Before disposal, unscrew the aluminium cap and sort the two parts separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Partially. The blue tint of the plastic filters part of the light passing through, but the bottle is not opaque and does not offer the same protection as dark glass or opaque packaging. For oils and products with sensitive ingredients, a blue bottle is a better choice than a clear one, but we still recommend keeping it out of direct sunlight.
Is the plastic bottle and aluminium cap set suitable for food contact?
Not as a whole. Only the blue 250 ml PET bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The aluminium cap with the EPE liner does not carry such a declaration, so the bottle and cap set is declared only for contact with cosmetic products. For food use, you would need to choose a different closure with the appropriate certificate.
To what level should the 250 ml bottle be filled?
It is filled to the nominal volume of 250 ml, not to the brim of the neck. The space above this level serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If it is filled to the brim, the contents are pushed onto the thread when the bottle is closed, and the cap then does not seal as it should.
Can an oil containing essential oils be filled into a PET bottle?
Yes, PET withstands common cosmetic oils with the usual proportion of essential oils. For higher concentrations of essential oils, for pure essential oils or for products with solvents, we recommend testing compatibility on one bottle, because more aggressive ingredients may cloud or soften the plastic over time.
How do you prepare the bottle before the first filling, and can it be reused?
Wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to air dry. The same procedure applies for repeated use. The PET bottle withstands repeated filling. When you change the formulation, it is advisable to replace the cap, because the liner may retain the scent of the previous contents.
Can the aluminium cap be replaced with a pump or a sprayer?
Yes, the bottle has a 24/410 neck finish, which also fits other closures with the same neck type from the Handymade range. When replacing the closure, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific contents, because each type of closure behaves differently with thinner and thicker products.
