Product description

The 30 ml glass bottle with dropper is used for dispensing liquid products drop by drop: facial and oil serums, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, beard oils or cuticle oils. Clear glass shows the colour and clarity of the contents, so it suits products where the blend is meant to be visible, and blends that are not harmed by light. The set consists of a bottle with an 18/410 neck finish and a dropper with a white matte smooth cap; the length of the dropper matches this particular bottle. Both the bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is not intended for direct contact with food.

What it is suitable for

  • Oil serums and facial oils – the dropper draws up only the amount needed for one application, and the rest of the product stays free of contact with your fingers.
  • Blends of essential oils in a carrier oil – small doses for pulse points, for a massage oil or for the ends of the hair can be measured out drop by drop more precisely than by pouring.
  • Water-based and hydroglycerine serums and essences – thin water-based formulations are easy to draw up with a dropper, but air gets into the contents every time the bottle is opened, so they need preservation.
  • Samples and test batches – the 30 ml volume is enough to try out a formulation before making a larger quantity and to hand a sample to a customer.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which pushes part of the contents upwards once it is screwed in, and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. A small funnel or syringe helps with filling. With thicker oils, let the bottle stand for a moment before fitting the dropper so that the air bubbles can escape.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in an anhydrous oil product compromises its stability.

Good to know

The dropper works with liquids of low viscosity. Gels, thicker emulsions and butters cannot be drawn up into the tube, and a jar or a bottle with a pump is more suitable for them. Thin oils, water-based solutions and alcohol tinctures drip evenly.

Glass withstands ordinary cosmetic production, but not thermal shock. Let a hot oil phase cool to at least lukewarm before filling, and do not put a cold bottle into hot water.

The plastic and silicone parts of the dropper come into contact with the contents only when the liquid is drawn up. With a higher proportion of undiluted essential oils, alcohol or solvents, however, they may change over time. For such blends, first check how the dropper behaves with your particular formulation, and only then fill a larger number of bottles.

Clear glass does not filter light. Serums with retinol, vitamin C derivatives or unrefined oils prone to oxidation belong in amber glass. If you fill them into this bottle, store them in a box or in a drawer.

After thorough washing and drying, you can reuse the bottle. Closures with the same type of neck as stated in the parameters, as well as ready-made bottle + closure combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your particular formulation. An empty bottle goes into glass recycling; the dropper is made of several materials and is separated from the bottle during recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear glass bottle with dropper protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass does not block light. It suits stable oils, blends with an antioxidant, and products that are used up quickly or kept in a cabinet. For light-sensitive active ingredients, choose amber glass or keep the bottle in a cardboard box.
How much liquid fits into a 30 ml bottle with dropper?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 30 ml, although more fits up to the brim. The difference is a reserve for the dropper tube, which raises the liquid level once it is screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents in warm conditions. If you fill the bottle up to the neck, the liquid overflows through the thread when the dropper is fitted and the closure will not seal.
Can a glass bottle with dropper be used for a water-based serum or toner?
Yes, thin water-based and hydroglycerine serums are easy to dispense with a dropper. However, every opening lets in air, and contact between the dropper and the skin introduces microorganisms, so the water phase needs an effective preservative system. For a toner that is applied over a larger area, a bottle with a sprayer is usually more convenient.
Is the dropper suitable for pure essential oils and alcohol tinctures?
Yes, with a check first. The glass bottle and the glass tube of the dropper are resistant to essential oils and alcohol, while the plastic and silicone parts come into contact with them when the liquid is drawn up and through long-term exposure to vapours. Fill one bottle first, let it stand for several weeks and check that the dropper still seals and draws up liquid in the same way.
Is the bottle with dropper set suitable for food?
No, this set is declared for contact with cosmetic products, not for direct contact with food. This applies to both the bottle and the dropper. For herbal infusions, syrups or cooking oils, choose packaging whose suitability for food contact is stated in the parameters.
How do I clean a bottle with dropper before reusing it?
Wash the bottle in warm water with detergent, rinse it, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let it dry with the neck facing down. Draw up the cleaning solution with the dropper several times, and then clean water, so that no residues of the previous product remain in the tube. Residues of fragrance or colour in the silicone part may not be fully removable, so consider a new dropper when you change the product.
