Product description

The 30 ml glass bottle with an aluminium cap forms a ready-made set for filling smaller volumes of cosmetics, from facial oils to fragrance samples. The clear glass lets the colour of the contents stand out, which suits facial oils, perfume oils, serums and tinctures for external use, where the appearance of the contents is part of the result. The screw-on silver aluminium cap with an 18/410 neck finish seals the bottle without a dispensing element, so the contents are poured or scooped directly from the neck.

Both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

  • Facial and body oils – a smaller pack for trying out an oil blend or for travel.
  • Serums and toners – water-based and water-glycerine formulations that are used up within a shorter time after opening.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts for external use – the glass withstands ethanol without any change in appearance or shape.
  • Perfume oils and fragrance samples – the 30 ml volume corresponds to common trial sizes.
  • Samples and test batches – when fine-tuning a formulation, it is worth filling into packaging made of the same material as the final product.

For light-sensitive contents, for example oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, essential oils or vitamin C, bear in mind that clear glass does not block light. Store such products in the dark or choose amber or blue glass.

Nominal and total volume

The 30 ml figure is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the bottle is intended to hold during normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two is a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is filled up to the neck, part of the contents is pushed out when the cap is screwed on, and the liner is left contaminated.

Cap and seal

The cap is made of aluminium and has an expanded polyethylene (EPE) foam liner inside, which sits against the neck of the bottle. The contents therefore come into contact with the liner, while the aluminium shell stays on the outside. A light turn is enough when screwing it on. Overtightening deforms the liner and does not improve the seal.

The tightness of the seal depends on the specific formulation, the temperature and the way of transport. For oils, alcohol extracts and thin water-based solutions, we recommend checking how the set behaves when lying on its side and when shaken before filling a larger batch.

You will find closures with the same 18/410 neck finish, as well as ready-made combinations of this bottle with other closures, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Good to know

  • Preparation before filling – wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the neck is undesirable for oil-based and anhydrous products.
  • Filling temperature – do not fill the glass with hot product straight from heating, and do not move it abruptly between cold and warm. Let emulsions and balms cool to room temperature before filling.
  • Reuse – after thorough washing, the bottle can be used again. Check that the foam liner in the cap is not compressed or soaked with the previous contents.
  • Cleaning off oils – greasy residues are best removed from glass with warm water and washing-up liquid; finish by disinfecting with ethanol.
  • Recycling – the glass belongs in glass waste, and the aluminium cap is sorted separately as metal.

The set is intended for cosmetic products. It is not intended for food, syrups or cooking oils.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear 30 ml glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass does not block light. The contents are visible from the outside, which is an advantage with coloured oils or perfumes, but light-sensitive substances lose their effect faster and may change colour or scent. For such contents, store the bottle in the dark or in a box, or choose amber or blue glass.
How much does the 30 ml glass bottle actually hold?
In normal filling, 30 ml is dispensed into the bottle, which is its nominal volume. The physical volume up to the brim is larger and is given in the parameters. This difference serves as a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes, which is why the bottle is not filled to the brim.
Is the 18/410 aluminium cap suitable for oil-based and alcohol-based contents?
Yes, the cap has an inner expanded polyethylene foam liner that sits against the neck, so the aluminium does not touch the contents. This type of closure is commonly used with oils and ethanol. The tightness during transport and longer storage on its side depends on the specific contents, so test it before filling a larger batch.
Can the glass bottle with an aluminium cap be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the cap can be used again after washing and disinfection. Wash the glass with warm water and washing-up liquid and disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. Check the foam liner in the cap. If it is compressed, soaked or smells of the previous contents, replace the cap.
Is the 30 ml glass bottle and aluminium cap set approved for food contact?
No, the set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It suits facial and body oils, serums, tinctures for external use and perfume oils. For cooking oils, syrups or herbal extracts intended for consumption, choose packaging with a food-contact certificate.
