Product description

A clear PET bottle with a volume of 500 ml and a black and gold pump with a 24/410 neck finish make up packaging for liquid and moderately thick cosmetic products for everyday use: liquid soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion or cleansing milk. The pump dispenses roughly the same amount with each press, you do not touch the contents with your hands, and the bottle stands by the sink or in the shower with no cap to unscrew. The clear plastic shows the colour of the contents and how much is left.

The set is supplied as a ready-made pair. The bottle and pump share the same neck, and the length of the pump’s dip tube is matched to this bottle, reaching all the way to the bottom. This means almost all of the contents can be used up without tilting the bottle. The packaging is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics; you will find the declaration of conformity with the product.

The bottle and pump in practice

The bottle is made of PET, so it is lightweight and does not break when dropped on a tiled floor. That is why this type is chosen for the bathroom, the shower and anywhere glass is a problem. The clear version does not protect the contents from light. Store light-sensitive products, such as oils prone to yellowing, plant extracts or coloured products, away from direct sunlight, or choose amber or blue packaging for them.

The pump combines plastic and aluminium in a black and gold finish. One press dispenses approximately 1 ml, which suits liquid soap or lotion. Thicker creams and balms are difficult or impossible to dispense through a pump like this. For gel and thicker formulations, we recommend testing how it works on a small sample before filling your entire production run.

Before first use, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the dip tube fills and the pump starts to dispense the contents. With thicker products this takes a little longer.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume up to the neck is larger. The difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the pump mechanism, which take up part of the space once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill it up to the neck, the contents will be pushed out when you screw on the pump.

Fill it only with cooled contents. After production, let emulsions and liquid soaps cool to room temperature, as a hot mass can deform a PET bottle.

Good to know

  • Preparation before filling – wash the bottle and pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the tube dilutes the first doses.
  • Reuse – both parts can be used again. After emptying, rinse the pump with warm water by pumping it, so that residues of the contents do not dry inside and block the mechanism.
  • Essential oils and solvents – for products with a high proportion of essential oils, fragrance compositions or solvents, we recommend testing how the plastic behaves on a single bottle over several weeks. Long-term contact may soften the plastic or cause clouding.
  • Shipping – when sending filled bottles, check the tightness of the pump in practice and transport the bottles upright.
  • Food contact – the set is intended for cosmetics. Neither the bottle nor the pump has a food-contact certificate, so we do not recommend it for oils, syrups or other foods.
  • Recycling – the PET bottle belongs with plastics. The pump combines plastic and aluminium, so separate it from the bottle before recycling.

The PET bottle is not intended for hot filling or for storage in warm places, such as on a windowsill or in a car. Fill it with cooled contents and protect filled bottles from direct sunlight, also because the clear plastic does not protect the contents from light.

You will find other closures for bottles with a 24/410 neck finish, as well as ready-made combinations, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

What products can be dispensed from the 500 ml plastic bottle with a pump?
The pump is suitable for liquid and moderately thick products: liquid soaps, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners and body or facial lotions. One press dispenses approximately 1 ml. The pump cannot push out thick creams, butters and balms. For gel formulations with higher viscosity, test how it works on a sample before filling the entire batch.
Does the clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear plastic does not block light. Store light-sensitive products, for example those with vegetable oils prone to yellowing or with coloured extracts, away from direct sunlight, or choose an amber or blue bottle for them. For ordinary liquid soaps and shower gels used in the bathroom, the clear bottle is sufficient.
How much fits into the 500 ml bottle with a pump?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 500 ml, not to the brim. The remaining space up to the neck is a reserve for the dip tube and the pump mechanism and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle up to the neck, part of the contents will be pushed out when you screw on the pump.
How do I prepare the bottle and pump before first filling?
Wash both parts, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. After filling, prime the pump by pressing it several times until it starts to dispense the contents. For repeated use, rinse the pump with warm water by pumping it after emptying, so that residues of the contents do not dry inside.
Is the plastic bottle with a pump suitable for products with essential oils or alcohol?
With the usual proportion of essential oils in liquid soap or shampoo, the PET bottle can be used without problems. With a high proportion of essential oils, fragrance compositions or solvents, we recommend testing how the plastic behaves on a single bottle over several weeks. Long-term contact may soften the plastic or cause clouding. Never fill the bottle with hot contents.
Is the bottle and pump set approved for food contact?
No, the set is declared only as suitable for contact with cosmetics. Neither the bottle nor the pump has a food-contact certificate, so it is not suitable for homemade oils, syrups or drinks. The declaration of conformity for cosmetic use is available with the product.
