Product description

A one-litre transparent plastic bottle with a white pump is designed for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed repeatedly and in larger quantities: liquid soaps, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, body lotions or massage oils. Through the transparent wall you can see the colour of the product and how much of it is left. The pump dispenses with one hand and there is no need to lift or open the bottle while doing so.

The set is suitable anywhere the bottle stays in one place, that is by the sink, in the shower, in a salon or in a workshop. The 1000 ml volume is also practical as a refill pack for topping up smaller containers.

How the set dispenses and seals

With one full press the pump delivers approximately 1 ml of product. The dose is repeatable and can be relied on for a recommendation on the label, for example two to three presses to wash your hands. The contents are drawn through a tube from the bottom, so during normal use you do not reach into the bottle with your hands and the product is less exposed to contamination than in a container with an open neck.

A ribbed collar makes it easier to tighten and loosen the pump even with wet hands. The pump is tightened by hand as far as it will go, without using force.

Before fitting it for the first time, it is worth checking the length of the tube against the bottle. If the tube bends against the bottom, shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The diagonal end does not stick to the bottom and the bottle empties almost completely.

Suitable for products such as

  • Liquid soaps and shower gels – for everyday use at the sink and in the shower, pump dispensing is convenient.
  • Shampoos and conditioners – the one-litre pack suits families as well as hairdressing and massage businesses.
  • Body lotions and thinner emulsions – the pump dispenses them as long as they flow freely; thick creams and butters do not belong in it.
  • Massage and body oils – they are dispensed without spillage and without a greasy neck.

What is good to know before filling

Nominal and total volume are not the same thing. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume all the way up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the pump body with its tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. It is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Before filling for the first time, wash and disinfect both the bottle and the pump with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. It is recommended to pump the dispenser several times with the disinfectant and then let it drip dry, so that no water remains in the mechanism.

Products with solid particles (scrubs with grains, preparations with clay or herbal grit) and very thick gels can clog the pump or cannot be drawn up. It is advisable to verify the behaviour of a specific formulation on a test sample.

The plastic is light and does not break when dropped, which is an advantage in the bathroom and during transport. Let hot contents cool down before filling, because the plastic wall can deform under heat. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils, spirit or solvents we recommend carrying out a compatibility test. The filled sample is left to stand for several weeks and the shape of the bottle, the scent and the function of the pump are monitored.

The transparent wall does not protect the contents from light. Products with sensitive oils, colourants or fragrance components are therefore better kept out of direct sunlight.

The dimensions needed to design the label are given in the parameters. A bottle with a neck of the same type can also be combined with other closures from the Handymade range. With your own combination we recommend verifying the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the container with a specific formulation.

Contact with cosmetics and food

Both the bottle and the pump are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle separately has certification for direct contact with food, the pump does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics, not for food.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 1000 ml plastic bottle with a pump suitable for thick products?
It is not suitable for very thick products. The pump reliably dispenses liquid and semi-liquid products that flow freely, for example liquid soap, shampoo, shower gel, body lotion or oil. Thick creams, butters and gels with high viscosity are drawn up with difficulty or not at all. With a borderline consistency, a test filling and several dozen presses will help.
How much product does the pump on the one-litre plastic bottle deliver per press?
With a full press the pump delivers approximately 1 ml of product. The actual dose depends on the density and viscosity of the contents; with thicker products it can be slightly smaller. If the dosage is stated on the label, it is worth verifying it by weighing several presses with the finished product.
Can the one-litre bottle with a pump be used for food, for example syrup or oil?
The set with a pump is not intended for food. Only the bottle itself has certification for direct contact with food; the pump is declared only for contact with cosmetics. The set as a whole therefore serves for cosmetic products. For food use, the option is the bottle on its own with a closure that has its own food certification.
Why is the 1000 ml plastic bottle with a pump not filled all the way to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume because the space above the surface is needed. The pump body and the tube displace part of the contents once fitted, and the product expands when the temperature changes. If filled to the brim, the contents would overflow through the neck, contaminate the thread and impair the seal of the pump.
Can the plastic bottle with a pump be refilled and how is it cleaned?
Yes, the set can be used repeatedly. The bottle is washed with warm water and detergent and rinsed. The pump is flushed through with clean water and then with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Both parts must dry completely before the next filling, because water residues in the mechanism can contaminate the new product. A worn-out pump can simply be replaced with a new one with the same neck.
