Product description
Euxy K 903 is a mild and effective preservative for modern cosmetic formulations with a pH up to approximately 6. It provides a broad, well-balanced protection spectrum against bacteria, yeasts and moulds, works excellently also in non-ionic systems and has good efficacy in the vapor phase. It is suitable for leave-on, rinse-off and wet wipes and is easy to incorporate into aqueous or water-glycol bases.

Use in formulation
- Dosage (typically): 0,5 – 1,0 %; practical recommendation 0,4 – 1,2 % depending on product type and risk.
- pH: optimal ≤ 6 (lowering the pH increases efficacy); at pH > 6 it is stable but ineffective.
- Incorporation: pre-dissolve in the water-glycol phase (e.g. propylene glycol), add during cooling below 40 °C.
- Heating: avoid prolonged heating above ~80 °C (> 4 h).
- Compatibility: effective in anionic, non-ionic and cationic systems; with iron ions a yellow discoloration may appear – minimise their presence.
- Aerosols: do not use in aerosol sprays (restriction due to the content of dehydroacetic acid).
- Regulatory limits (overview): EU up to 1,23 % (leave-on and rinse-off)
Safety and storage
In contaminated systems, allow for a minimum contact time of approximately 48 hours for complete disintegration of microorganisms. Observe production hygiene and use raw materials with low microbial load. Store in the original closed container at room temperature, protected from heat and direct light.
It works best in the “skin-friendly” range up to approximately 6. By lowering the pH its efficacy usually increases, therefore we recommend adjusting the finished product to pH ≤ 6.
Yes. It has good efficacy in the vapor phase and a well-balanced protection spectrum, therefore it is suitable for wet wipes and gentle formulations when the recommended pH and dosage are observed.
Pre-dissolve it in the water-glycol phase (e.g. propylene glycol), add it to the water phase during cooling below 40 °C and mix until homogeneous distribution. Avoid prolonged heating above 80 °C.
Most commonly 0,5 – 1,0 % (overall range for practice 0,4 – 1,2 %). Adjust the choice of dosage to the product type.
