Product description

Lamesoft PO 65

In shower gels, liquid soaps and baby washing products, Lamesoft PO 65 replenishes the lipids that surfactants wash off the skin. It combines the sugar surfactant Coco-Glucoside with the ester Glyceryl Oleate, which the manufacturer describes as a lipid naturally present in human skin. After rinsing, the skin feels less dried out and the washing product gains a noticeable caring feel. The second role of the ingredient is thickening: in natural-based surfactant systems it builds viscosity.

It is processed cold and added to the water phase together with the surfactants.

Key benefits

  • Support for the lipid layer during washing – Glyceryl Oleate reduces the degreasing effect of surfactants. According to the manufacturer’s data, this effect appears at a usage rate as low as 1%, which corresponds to light care in an ordinary shower gel.
  • Hydration and a smoother skin feel – at 3% the manufacturer reports soft and smooth skin after washing, and at 5% a hydrating effect that lasted 24 hours in its tests. The results come from the manufacturer’s tests and are worth verifying in your specific formulation.
  • Thickening of surfactant solutions – it increases the viscosity of shower gels, bubble baths, shampoos and baby washing products. The final consistency must be tested in the finished formulation.
  • Contribution to the washing component – at a usage rate of 5%, Coco-Glucoside in the composition adds approximately 1.7% of active washing substance. The amount of the main or secondary surfactant can therefore be reduced accordingly.
  • Suitable for sensitive and baby skin – the manufacturer recommends it for baby and facial washing products. The ingredient contains no preservative or fragrance allergens, is approved for COSMOS and NATRUE certification and is readily biodegradable.

Use in formulations

Lamesoft PO 65 belongs in the water phase with the surfactants. The recommended processing temperature is 15–25 °C and no heating is needed. It is added to the finished surfactant solution and stirred until evenly incorporated. The ingredient is viscous, so it is more accurate to dose it by weight. When mixing, bear in mind that the viscosity of the solution will rise.

The recommended usage rate is 1–5%. Lower rates suit products where the main aim is to reduce dryness. Higher rates belong in creamy shower products, bubble baths and products for children, where the care should be clearly noticeable.

As a guide, 1% gives light care in an ordinary shower gel, 3% a noticeably softer skin feel and 5% suits intensive-care concepts, where the manufacturer reports hydration of up to 24 hours.

The ingredient is non-ionic (HLB 11–12) and is compatible with anionic, amphoteric, non-ionic and cationic surfactants and with electrolytes. The finished formulation can have a pH in the range 5–12. The ingredient itself is acidic: a 5% solution has a pH of approximately 3–4 because of the citric acid used to adjust it. After adding it, measure the pH of your formulation and adjust it if necessary. Verify the effect on the clarity and foaming of the finished product in your specific formulation.

The main use is in rinse-off products. The manufacturer also lists body milks, that is leave-on emulsions, where it can act as an emollient. For this type of product we recommend testing the stability and skin feel in the finished emulsion.

Suitable for products such as

  • Shower gels and shower creams with an emphasis on care.
  • Bubble baths and liquid soaps, where it also helps with consistency.
  • Baby washing products and baths.
  • Facial washing gels for sensitive skin.
  • Shampoos.
  • Body milks as an additional emollient, as recommended by the manufacturer.

Good to know

Lamesoft PO 65 is incorporated into the surfactant solution, not into the oil phase. It is practically insoluble in mineral oil and only sparingly soluble in ethanol.

After transport in cold conditions the ingredient may partially crystallise. Its quality is not affected: simply warm it to 25–30 °C and stir. The crystallisation is reversible.

The ingredient contains no preservative; a blend of tocopherols protects it against oxidation. A finished water-based product therefore needs its own preservative system, matched to the pH of the formulation.

Under the CLP Regulation the concentrate is classified as corrosive (GHS05 pictogram, skin and materials). Handle the undiluted ingredient in accordance with the safety data sheet.

The composition is of vegetable origin (coconut and palm kernel oil, sunflower oil, glucose, glycerine), and the palm part is certified under the RSPO Mass Balance system. The ingredient has a Halal certificate and the manufacturer lists it as suitable for concepts with EU Ecolabel or Nordic Swan.

Frequently asked questions

Which phase is Lamesoft PO 65 added to?
Lamesoft PO 65 is added to the water phase with the surfactants, into the finished surfactant solution. When stirred in without heating, it disperses evenly and at the same time increases the viscosity of the solution. It does not belong in the oil phase: it is practically insoluble in mineral oil and only sparingly soluble in ethanol.
How much Lamesoft PO 65 should I add to a shower gel?
In a shower gel, Lamesoft PO 65 is added at 1–5%. At 1% it reduces dryness of the skin, at 3% the care is already noticeable, and 5% is used in creamy shower products and baby cosmetics. At 5% the manufacturer reports a hydrating effect lasting 24 hours.
Does Lamesoft PO 65 thicken surfactant products?
Yes, Lamesoft PO 65 increases the viscosity of shower gels, bubble baths and shampoos. The thickening effect depends on the surfactants used and their concentration, so add it before any other thickeners and adjust the final viscosity only afterwards. At higher usage rates, expect a thicker mass already during mixing.
Can Lamesoft PO 65 be processed cold?
Yes, Lamesoft PO 65 is processed at 15–25 °C without heating. It is added to the finished surfactant solution and stirred until homogeneous. If the ingredient has crystallised after cold transport, warm it to 25–30 °C and stir. The crystallisation is reversible and does not reduce its effectiveness.
Is Lamesoft PO 65 suitable for baby cosmetics?
Yes, the manufacturer recommends Lamesoft PO 65 for baby washing products and baths. The ingredient contains no preservative or fragrance allergens, is non-ionic and supports the lipid layer of the skin, which surfactants disturb during washing. However, a finished product for children must be assessed as a whole, including the surfactant base and the preservation.
What is the difference between Lamesoft PO 65 and Coco-Glucoside?
Coco-Glucoside is a standalone sugar surfactant, whereas Lamesoft PO 65 is its blend with Glyceryl Oleate, intended as a care additive for surfactant products. It does not replace the main surfactant; at a usage rate of 5% it contributes approximately 1.7% of active washing substance. Its role is to reduce dryness, give a smooth skin feel and thicken the formulation.
