Product description

This amber glass 100 ml medicine bottle with a black and gold dropper is a ready-to-use set for filling facial serums, oil blends and tinctures that are dispensed drop by drop. The dark glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so the bottle is particularly suitable for blends containing vegetable and essential oils or light-sensitive active ingredients. The dropper with a glass tube lets you draw exactly as much as the recipe or application requires.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the dropper does not, so the assembled set is intended for cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Facial and oil serums – the dropper dispenses one drop at a time, which makes precise application of concentrated products easier.
  • Essential oil blends and fragrance compositions – drop-by-drop dispensing simplifies measuring into recipes, and the dark glass slows the effect of light.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – both the glass bottle and the glass tube of the dropper tolerate alcohol, and the drops can be counted.
  • Macerated oils and treatment oils for hair or nails – drop-by-drop dispensing is more precise than pouring from the neck.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the volume the bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between the two serves as a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which pushes the level up when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water is not visible in amber glass and does not belong in an anhydrous serum.

Using the dropper

The length of the dropper is matched to this bottle. It consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and a black and gold closure that screws onto the neck with an 18/410 neck finish. To draw the product, squeeze the bulb above the liquid level, immerse the tube and release the bulb so that it fills. Squeezing the bulb above the liquid level prevents the contents from getting into the bulb, where they are difficult to clean out.

More viscous oils and serums with a thickener are drawn up more slowly and the drops are larger. With such formulations, it is worth testing the dispensing before filling the whole batch.

For blends with a high proportion of essential oils or with solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic and silicone parts of the dropper behave with your specific formulation. The glass bottle and the glass tube are resistant to such contents; the bulb and the closure may not be.

Good to know

Glass tolerates washing with hot water but does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle or the other way round. After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be used repeatedly. With the dropper, it is advisable to check after each emptying whether the silicone bulb has hardened or cracked.

The bottle can also be fitted with other closures with the same neck type, which are available in the Handymade range together with ready-made combinations of bottle and closure. If you create your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

After use, the glass belongs in glass recycling. The dropper is made of several materials, so before disposal, separate the glass tube from the plastic closure and the silicone bulb.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber glass medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the amount of visible and UV light reaching the contents. It is not a complete barrier, so a bottle with sensitive contents should still be stored out of direct sunlight. For vegetable oils, essential oils and serums with light-sensitive active ingredients, amber glass is more suitable than clear glass.
Is the medicine bottle and dropper set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the dropper has no such certificate. If you want to use the bottle for food, check that the closure you choose is suitable for food contact.
How much can actually be poured into a 100 ml medicine bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The brimful volume is larger and you can find it in the parameters. The reserve above the nominal volume is needed for the tube of the dropper, which pushes the level up when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents in warm conditions.
Can the dropper be used for an alcohol tincture?
Both the glass bottle and the glass tube of the dropper tolerate alcohol. For the silicone bulb and the plastic closure, it depends on the alcohol concentration and the length of contact, so we recommend checking how the dropper behaves with your specific tincture. Always draw the product above the liquid level so that the alcohol does not get into the bulb.
How do I clean a medicine bottle with a dropper before reusing it?
Wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Take the dropper apart into the tube, the bulb and the closure, then wash and disinfect each part separately. Everything must dry completely before the next filling, especially for anhydrous oil products.
Will other closures fit the 18/410 medicine bottle?
Yes, any closure with the same thread type fits a neck with an 18/410 thread. The Handymade range includes closures sold separately as well as ready-made combinations of bottle and closure. If you create your own combination, you need to check the tightness and whether the length of the dropper or tube matches the height of the bottle.
