Product description

This is a ready-made set for small volumes: a brown glass bottle – a vial with a nominal volume of 10 ml, a plastic dropper inserted into the neck, and a white smooth cap. Brown glass reduces light transmission, making the set particularly suitable for contents sensitive to light and oxidation – essential oils, fragrance compositions, oil serums, facial and nail oils, or concentrated active ingredients dosed by drops. The small volume is also practical for samples, travel packaging, and trial batches where it is not yet certain whether the formula will remain in its final form.

How the set works

After filling, the dropper is pressed into the neck and remains there during use. The contents are dispensed drop by drop by tilting the bottle, without any additional tools and without the risk of the contents spilling all at once if knocked over. The cap screws over the dropper and seals the entire set. The dropper also narrows the opening, so the contents come into contact with less air each time the bottle is opened – an advantage for oils prone to oxidation.

All three components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity and documentation are listed with the product.

What it is suitable for

  • Essential oils and fragrance compositions – dark glass protects against light, the dropper enables precise dosing drop by drop into a formula or aroma lamp.
  • Oil serums and facial oils – thin oils and their blends with oil-soluble active ingredients flow smoothly through the dropper; the small volume corresponds to typical daily use consumption.
  • Concentrated active ingredients and tinctures – aqueous and alcoholic solutions that are added to the finished product in small quantities.
  • Samples and trial batches – for testing a formula, stability tests, or customer samples without filling larger bottles.

Volume and filling

Nominal volume is the quantity for which the vial is intended under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the rim is the physical volume up to the neck and is larger; both values are listed in the parameters. The difference between them is the headspace for the dropper, which takes up part of the neck space once inserted, and for the expansion of the contents when temperature changes.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the rim. Overfilling causes the contents to be pushed out through the neck when the dropper is pressed in, soiling the thread and preventing the cap from sealing properly.

What is good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – we recommend washing the vial, disinfecting it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing it to dry completely. The dropper and cap only need to be rinsed with alcohol and dried.
  • Viscosity of the contents – the dropper is designed for thin liquids. Thick oils (such as castor oil) flow slowly, and gels and emulsions will not pass through it at all; for such contents, a vial without a dropper or with a different type of closure is more suitable.
  • Plastic and concentrated contents – both the dropper and the cap are made of plastic. With undiluted essential oils, particularly citrus oils, and with alcoholic solutions, we recommend periodically checking during long-term storage whether the dropper is changing shape or losing its seal.
  • Glass and temperature – fill the contents only after they have cooled to room temperature. Sudden temperature changes are not good for glass, and warm contents will contract after sealing, changing the pressure inside the bottle.
  • Reuse – the vial can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. The dropper can be removed with a thin tool, but if there are oil residues in its channel, it is more reliable to replace it with a new one.
  • Labelling – the cylindrical shape allows a label to be applied around the entire circumference of the vial.
  • Closures – the set comes with a dropper and a cap. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range; for a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dosing with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – glass goes into glass waste; the dropper and cap are separated before disposal and sorted as plastic.

The food contact certification applies to the glass vial alone. Neither the dropper nor the cap holds this certification, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics – not for food-grade oils, syrups, or herbal extracts.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml brown glass vial protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown glass reduces light transmission, thereby slowing light-induced oxidation of the contents. It does not, however, replace other stability conditions: essential oils and oils prone to oxidation should also be stored in dark glass in a cool place, tightly sealed, to limit air exposure.
Is the vial and dropper set suitable for essential oils?
Yes, this is one of its primary uses. Dark glass protects the oil from light and the dropper allows dispensing drop by drop directly into a formula. Both the dropper and the cap are plastic, so with undiluted citrus oils and long-term storage, we recommend periodically checking whether the dropper is changing shape or losing its seal.
Why does a 10 ml vial hold more than 10 ml?
The nominal volume is the quantity for which the vial is intended; the total volume to the rim is larger, and the difference provides headspace for the dropper and the expansion of the contents. Filling must be done to the nominal volume; otherwise, pressing in the dropper will push some of the contents out and contaminate the thread.
Can the vial with dropper be reused?
Yes, the glass vial can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection with alcohol. The dropper can be removed from the neck, but the narrow channel is difficult to clean from oils and fragrance materials and may transfer scent to the next contents. When changing contents, it is more reliable to use a new dropper.
Is the set with the dropper and white cap suitable for food use?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The food contact certification applies only to the glass vial alone; the dropper and cap are declared only for cosmetic products. For food use, it is therefore necessary to choose the vial alone with a closure that holds food contact certification.
Is the dropper also suitable for thick oils or gels?
No, the dropper is designed for thin liquids such as essential oils, light vegetable oils, tinctures, and aqueous solutions. Thicker oils flow very slowly, and gels or emulsions will not pass through the narrow channel. For such contents, a vial without a dropper or with a different type of closure is more suitable.
