Product description

The glass bottle, Boston vial with white cap, is a complete set in amber glass with a capacity of 250 ml and a tall plastic cap with a 28/410 thread. Amber glass limits light exposure, making the bottle especially suitable for contents that are sensitive to light: vegetable and massage oils, oil serums, tinctures, hydrolates, tonics and liquid soaps. The 250 ml volume corresponds to a typical body oil, cleansing oil or stock bottle from which the contents are further dispensed.

The cap is unscrewed and the contents are poured directly through the neck. The set is suitable where dispensing is done by pouring, not with a dropper or spray – for example with massage oils, rinse-off products or semi-finished goods in production.

Why choose this set

  • Light protection – amber glass limits light exposure to the contents, slowing the oxidation of oils and the fading of colour or scent in sensitive ingredients.
  • Glass does not react with contents – the bottle is suitable for water-based, oil-based and alcohol-based contents, including tinctures and extracts with a higher alcohol content.
  • Boston shape – rounded shoulders and a straight body make labelling and gripping during pouring easier.
  • Ready-to-use combination – the 28/410 threaded cap fits the PP28S neck, so there is no need to search for and test a separate closure.
  • Reusable – the glass can be washed, disinfected and refilled; the cap too, after checking the seal.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for during standard filling. Total brim-full volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is larger. The difference between them is the headspace for the cap and for expansion of contents with temperature changes, for example during transport or storage in heat. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – an overfilled bottle will push contents into the thread when closing and seal poorly. Both values are listed in the product parameters.

What to know when using

Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing and rinsing both the bottle and the cap before use, disinfecting with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and allowing to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based or anhydrous product causes cloudiness and reduces stability.

Glass cannot withstand sudden temperature changes. Hot phases, such as a freshly prepared extract or a hot oil phase, should be allowed to cool to at least lukewarm temperature before filling. A cold bottle filled with hot contents may crack.

Cap and contents. The cap is made of LDPE plastic, which is flexible and seals well. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents that are in prolonged contact with the cap, we recommend checking whether the material changes over time (softening, change of shape). With standard oils, hydrolates, tonics and liquid soaps this is not usually an issue. The cap has declared suitability for use with cosmetic products.

Seal. When filling, keep the thread clean – drops of oil or soap in the thread compromise the seal and make the cap harder to tighten. Before shipping or prolonged storage, we recommend a leak test with the specific contents: lay the bottle on its side on paper and leave it for a few hours.

Amber glass reduces light, but does not block it completely. Oils sensitive to oxidation, such as rosehip, cranberry or linseed, should be stored even in amber glass away from direct sunlight and at a lower temperature.

Labelling. The straight body of the bottle allows a label to be applied around the full circumference or on one side only. Bottle dimensions for label design are in the parameters. For oil-based products, we recommend a label with grease-resistant adhesive, otherwise it peels off when spilled.

Other closures. The bottle has a PP28S neck, so other closures with the same neck type from the Handymade range can also be used – ready-made combinations are listed with the individual products. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dosing with the specific formulation.

Recycling. After use, the bottle belongs in the glass waste stream and the cap separately in plastics; before disposal, empty the packaging and separate the cap.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber Boston glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass limits light exposure to the contents, slowing the oxidation of oils and the degradation of sensitive ingredients. It does not provide complete darkness, however, so bottles with sensitive contents are stored away from direct sunlight. For vegetable oils, serums and tinctures, amber glass is more suitable than clear.
How much contents fit in the Boston bottle with a nominal volume of 250 ml?
The bottle is designed to be filled with 250 ml of contents; the total brim-full volume is larger and provides headspace for the cap and content expansion. It should not be filled to the brim, as the contents would enter the thread when closing and the bottle would seal poorly. The exact values of both volumes are listed in the product parameters.
Is the glass Boston bottle with cap suitable for tinctures and alcohol-based contents?
Yes, glass is stable against alcohol and the bottle is suitable for tinctures, extracts and alcohol-based tonics. The LDPE plastic cap is fine at standard alcohol concentrations; for prolonged contact with high-percentage alcohol or concentrated essential oils, we recommend checking whether the cap material changes over time. Verify the seal with the specific contents.
Can the Boston 250 ml bottle be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle can be washed, disinfected and refilled. Before refilling, rinse it with warm water and detergent, disinfect with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry completely. Check the cap for deformation and whether it still seals; if in doubt, replace it with a new one with a 28/410 thread.
Can I pour hot contents into the glass Boston bottle?
Not directly – let hot contents cool before filling. Glass handles sudden temperature changes poorly and a cold bottle filled with hot liquid may crack. Lukewarm contents around body temperature are generally fine; the plastic cap is also not intended for sealing hot products, as it could deform.
Is the Boston bottle with white cap suitable for food, such as home-made oils or syrups?
No, this set has no declared food-contact suitability and is intended for cosmetic and technical use. For home-made oils, syrups or herbal extracts intended for consumption, choose packaging that explicitly states food-contact suitability in its parameters.
