A transparent plastic bottle with a dispenser is a complete packaging and closure set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products dispensed by pressing: liquid soaps, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, and body lotions. The bottle is made of PET, a lightweight plastic, making it suitable for the bathroom, by the sink, and for travel.

What products is it suitable for

The dispenser works best with liquid to medium-viscosity products that flow on their own towards the end of the tube:

• Liquid soaps and shower gels – including thickened surfactant blends.
• Shampoos and conditioners – as long as they remain liquid at room temperature.
• Body lotions and light emulsions – thin O/W emulsions that do not set to a cream.
• Hydrophilic and massage oils – dosing in presses will limit spillage.

Thick creams, butters, and balms cannot be drawn up through the tube reliably; a jar is more suitable for these. For very thin, water-based products meant to be applied as a fine mist, a spray bottle is a better choice.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is somewhat larger. This difference serves as a reserve for the dispenser body with its tube, which displaces some content once screwed in, and for expansion of the product with changes in temperature. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

What to know before filling

The dispenser tube is longer than the bottle and must be trimmed before first use. It is measured by holding the dispenser against the outside of the bottle and cut so that its end reaches just above the bottom.

Before filling, both the bottle and dispenser should be washed and disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. The dispenser should be pumped through several times with the disinfectant, and both parts should be left to dry completely. A new dispenser will only deliver product after several empty pumps while the mechanism fills.

PET cannot withstand high temperatures. Products must be filled cooled down, ideally at room temperature, otherwise the bottle may deform. For products with a high content of essential oils or solvents, we recommend a test on a single unit: monitor for several weeks whether the plastic changes shape or clarity and whether the dispenser runs smoothly.

The dimensions needed for label design are listed in the product parameters. A label adheres best when applied to a dry and degreased bottle before filling.

The bottle is made of PET and the dispenser of PP. As these are different materials, it is advisable to separate them before disposing of them for recycling.
