Product description

A transparent plastic bottle made of PET with a capacity of 200 ml and a matte white flip-top cap form a ready-to-use set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products. Suitable wherever the contents are dispensed through a small opening: shampoos, shower gels, body lotions or massage oils.

PET is lightweight and shatter-resistant, making the bottle suitable for the bathroom, shower and travel, where glass would be impractical. Through the transparent wall you can see the colour and consistency of the contents as well as how much is left. The cap opens with one hand and stays on the bottle, so it won't get lost during use.

How the set dispenses and which textures it is suitable for

The flip-top cap has a small dispensing opening. The contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle and gently squeezing its wall. When the cap is clicked shut, the opening is sealed.

  • Thin to medium-thick products – shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps and facial cleansing gels flow smoothly and can be measured out in small doses.
  • Emulsions with lower viscosity – body lotions and conditioners dispense without difficulty. Thick creams and butters cannot pass through the small opening and are better suited to a jar.
  • Oils – massage, body or cleansing oils dispense in drops to a thin stream depending on how firmly the bottle is squeezed.
  • Thin water-based products – tonics or micellar water can be poured onto a cotton pad. For fine misting, a spray bottle is more suitable.

Both the bottle and the cap are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products and the set is intended for cosmetics.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them serves as a reserve for the cap and for expansion of the contents when temperature changes.

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The headspace below the neck makes it easier to close without spillage and, for thicker products, to shake the contents.

What is worth knowing before filling

Preparation before first use. Wash both the bottle and the cap with warm water and a cleaning agent, then rinse thoroughly. Disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Any water residue inside the container unnecessarily burdens the product's preservation system.

Temperature of contents. PET does not tolerate high temperatures and may deform if filled with hot contents. Products prepared with heat should therefore be filled only after cooling down. For the same reason, the bottle should not be boiled or sterilised with hot water.

A transparent container does not protect the contents from light. Products containing light-sensitive substances (certain vegetable oils, extracts, vitamins, natural colorants) should be kept away from direct sunlight, for example in a cupboard.

Compatibility with contents. Common water-based products, surfactant blends, emulsions and vegetable oils are compatible with PET. Undiluted essential oils, concentrated fragrance compositions and strong solvents can degrade the plastic and do not belong in this container. For products with a higher proportion of alcohol or essential oils, we recommend carrying out a test with a filled sample.

Label. A label adheres best to a dry and degreased surface, so it should be applied after disinfection and drying. The dimensions required for label design are listed in the specifications.

Alternative closure. Closures with the same neck type (stated in the specifications) and other ready-made combinations are available from Handymade. For a custom combination, we recommend checking the seal, dispensing and container behaviour with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

What products is a 200 ml plastic bottle with a flip-top cap suitable for?
It is particularly suitable for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed by squeezing the bottle. These include shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, conditioners, body lotions and massage oils. The opening in the cap is small, so the contents come out in small doses. Thick creams and butters cannot pass through the opening and are better suited to a jar.
Does a transparent PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, transparent PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. Its advantage is that you can see the colour, consistency and remaining quantity of the product. Products containing light-sensitive substances should be stored in a cupboard or away from direct sunlight. For very sensitive formulations, it is worth considering a dark-coloured container.
Can the 200 ml plastic bottle be filled right to the top?
This is not recommended; the bottle should be filled to the nominal volume of 200 ml. The space between the nominal volume and the neck rim is a reserve for the cap and for expansion of the contents when temperature changes. An overfilled bottle may leak when closing and the contents cannot be shaken inside it.
Can a plastic bottle with a flip-top cap be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the cap can be reused provided they are undamaged and thoroughly cleaned. After emptying, wash them with warm water and a cleaning agent, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry. Pay particular attention to the dispensing opening and the cap lid, where product residues tend to collect. Hot water should not be used, as PET deforms under heat.
Is a PET bottle with a flip-top cap suitable for oils and products containing essential oils?
It is suitable for vegetable oils and common cosmetic products containing essential oils at standard usage levels. Undiluted essential oils and concentrated fragrance compositions are not suitable, as they can degrade the plastic. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend filling a test sample and monitoring whether the bottle or its contents change over time.
