Product description

A black plastic bottle with a matte white flip-top cap is a ready-made set for liquid and medium-viscosity cosmetic products dispensed by squeezing the bottle: shampoos, shower gels, and body lotions. The bottle is lightweight and flexible under pressure, which is particularly useful for shower and travel products.

The black colouring limits light exposure to the contents, which is appreciated for light-sensitive formulations. The flip-top cap opens with one hand and dispenses through a narrow opening, preventing the contents from pouring out all at once. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

Which products is the set suitable for

  • Shampoos and shower gels – surfactant-based products with a gel consistency dispense evenly through the flip-top opening, and the bottle is easy to squeeze even with a wet hand.
  • Conditioners and body lotions – thinner emulsions that flow naturally towards the neck; thick creams and butters are better suited to jars.
  • Liquid soaps and cleansing gels – where a pump is not needed and squeeze dispensing is sufficient.
  • Massage and body oils – the narrow opening helps measure out smaller amounts.

How to dispense with the flip-top cap

The cap screws onto the bottle neck, and the flip lid seals the dispensing opening when closed. The amount of product dispensed is controlled by how firmly the bottle is squeezed. This works best with products that flow but are not as thin as water.

Before filling an entire batch, it is worth filling one bottle and testing dispensing at both room temperature and in the cold. Many gels and emulsions thicken in cold conditions and become harder to squeeze out.

Closures with the same neck type (listed in the parameters) and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal integrity, dispensing behaviour, and compatibility of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold under standard filling conditions. Total brim-full volume is the physical capacity of the bottle filled right up to the neck rim and is slightly larger. The difference serves as a buffer for the cap and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, which is why the bottle should be filled to the nominal volume.

What to know before filling

Before first use, wash both the bottle and cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. Residual moisture inside the packaging unnecessarily burdens the product's preservation.

The bottle is made from PET, which cannot withstand high temperatures. Fill only after the product has cooled down; hot-filling can deform the bottle. For the same reason, do not boil the bottle or sterilise it with steam.

The bottle is intended for standard aqueous, surfactant-based, emulsion, and oil-based cosmetic products. Formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol, or solvents should be tested in a filled bottle beforehand.

The fill level and colour of the product are not visible through the black wall. When filling, it is therefore more practical to measure by volume or weight rather than by eye. Self-adhesive labels adhere well to the smooth glossy surface, and a light-coloured label reads clearly against the black background. Bottle dimensions needed for label design are listed in the parameters.

The food-contact certification applies to the bottle alone; the set with the flip-top cap as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the black colouring of the bottle limits light exposure to the contents. This is beneficial for products containing vegetable oils, extracts, or fragrance components that tend to change colour or scent more quickly when exposed to light. However, product stability is also determined by the formulation, preservation system, and antioxidants, so the packaging does not replace a stability test of the finished formulation.
How thick can products be to dispense through the flip-top cap?
The flip-top cap is suitable for products that flow freely on their own, such as shampoos, shower gels, body lotions, and oils. Thick creams, butters, and pastes are difficult to push through the narrow opening and some will remain in the bottle. Very thin liquids, on the other hand, flow out quickly and are harder to measure; a spray or pump is more precise for those.
Can the 200 ml bottle with a flip-top cap be filled right to the brim?
No, the bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The headspace is a buffer for the cap and for expansion of the contents when heated. Overfilling can cause leakage when closing, and product can get into the thread, compromising the seal and cleanliness of the packaging.
Is the black PET bottle suitable for products containing essential oils or alcohol?
The black PET bottle is suitable for products with standard cosmetic concentrations of essential oils — meaning fragranced surfactant products, emulsions, and oils. At high concentrations of essential oils, alcohol, or solvents, the plastic may change over time. In such cases, it is advisable to fill a test bottle and monitor the shape of the packaging, cap seal integrity, and the scent of the contents over several weeks.
Can the bottle with a flip-top cap also be used for food products?
The complete set of the black bottle with flip-top cap is intended for cosmetics, not for food use. The food-contact certification applies only to the bottle itself; the flip-top cap does not carry this certification. For food use, it is therefore necessary to combine the bottle with a closure that has food-contact suitability stated in its own product specifications.
