Product description

A brown 300 ml plastic bottle with a matte white flip-top cap is a ready-made set for liquid and semi-thick products that are dispensed directly into the palm: shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps or body lotions.

The bottle is made of PET, so it is lightweight and will not shatter if dropped, which is handy in the bathroom, in the shower and when travelling. The brown colour dims light and helps protect ingredients that are sensitive to it.

What products the set is suited for

The opening in the cap releases the contents when the bottle is tilted or gently squeezed. It therefore works best with products that flow on their own, but not too fast:

  • Hair care – shampoos, conditioners and rinse-off masks of thinner consistency.
  • Washing products – shower gels, liquid soaps, bubble baths.
  • Body care – body lotions, thinner emulsions, massage and body oils.
  • Technical and household products – for example liquid cleaning agents, as long as they are not aggressive chemicals.

Very thin liquids, such as toners or hydrosols, run out through the opening quickly and are harder to dispense. Thick creams, butters and balms come out of the bottle poorly and stay on the walls. For such products a different type of closure or a jar is more suitable.

How to work with a flip-top cap

The flip-top opens by lifting the lid, which stays attached to the cap. It will not get lost and the bottle can be operated with one hand. Once snapped shut, the lid closes the opening. The cap itself screws onto the bottle and after filling it should be tightened evenly, without excessive force.

Before filling the entire batch, it is worth filling one bottle and testing how the product flows through the opening. Based on that, the viscosity can still be adjusted while the formulation is open.

Closures with the same neck type (listed in the parameters) and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Nominal and total volume

The bottle is intended for 300 ml of product, which is its nominal volume at standard filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume all the way to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. It is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle may leak when closed or heated.

What is good to know before filling

Preparing the packaging. Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Water residue in the packaging needlessly burdens the preservation of the product.

PET does not tolerate high temperatures. Do not boil the bottle, do not sterilise it with hot water and do not fill it with hot contents, as it may deform. Let the product cool down before filling.

Material sensitivity. The bottle is not intended for aggressive chemicals. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend a trial filling and several weeks of observation.

Labelling. The label holds best on a dry and degreased surface. The bottle dimensions needed for its design are in the product parameters.

Contact with cosmetics and food. The cap has a declaration of suitability for use with cosmetic products. The set is not approved for contact with food, so it is not used for food and beverages.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the brown colour of the bottle dims the penetration of light and helps protect ingredients that are sensitive to it. This applies especially to plant oils, extracts and fragrance components. The protection is not complete, however, as the brown plastic does not block light entirely. Therefore do not leave the product in direct sunlight or on a window sill.
What products is a plastic bottle with a flip-top cap suitable for?
A bottle with a flip-top cap is suitable for liquid to semi-thick products that flow out on their own when tilted or gently squeezed. These include shampoos, shower gels, conditioners, body lotions and oils. Thick creams and butters come out through the opening poorly and very thin liquids run out too fast. It is a good idea to verify the consistency on one trial-filled bottle.
How much product fits into a 300 ml plastic bottle?
The bottle is filled to 300 ml, which is its nominal volume. Physically, somewhat more fits in it up to the brim. However, this space is meant to remain free as a reserve for the closure and the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. A bottle filled to the brim may overflow when closed or heated.
Can a hot product be filled into a PET plastic bottle?
No, a PET bottle is not intended for hot filling, as it may deform at a high temperature. Let the shampoo, gel or emulsion cool down before filling. For the same reason, the bottle is not boiled or sterilised with hot water. Isopropyl alcohol or ethanol is used for disinfection.
Is a 300 ml plastic bottle with a flip-top cap suitable for food?
No, the set of the brown plastic bottle with a flip-top cap is not approved for contact with food, so it is not used for food or beverages. The cap has a declaration of suitability for use with cosmetic products. The bottle is supplied in cosmetic and technical quality, so the set serves for cosmetic and technical products.
