Product description

A blue plastic bottle with a capacity of 250 ml and a matte white flip-top cap is a ready-to-use set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products dispensed in small amounts directly into the palm. It is particularly suitable for shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, conditioners, body lotions, and massage or body oils.

The bottle is made of PET, making it lightweight and shatter-resistant. This is especially useful in the bathroom, shower, and when travelling. The blue tint of the material filters some of the light reaching the contents. The flip-top opens and closes with one hand.

How the set dispenses and seals

The contents are dispensed through the small opening in the cap by tilting the bottle and gently squeezing its sides. This allows good control of the amount dispensed for both thin and medium-viscosity products.

  • Thin liquids – tonics, micellar waters or oils flow out in a fine stream; simply tilt the bottle.
  • Gel and cream textures – dispensed by squeezing the bottle. The thicker the product, the more pressure is required.
  • Very thick products – solid creams, butters and balms do not pass through the small opening easily and the remainder is hard to remove from the bottle. A jar or pot is more suitable for these.

The cap lid closes the opening when snapped shut. For your own formulation, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing on a filled bottle, especially with very thin oils and before travelling.

It is worth testing the dispensing directly in this bottle before filling an entire batch. If the contents are difficult to dispense when squeezed, slightly reducing the viscosity or choosing a container with a wider opening will help.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. Total brim-full volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them serves as a margin for the closure and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging reduces the microbiological stability of the product.
  • Compatibility with contents – PET is commonly used with water-based, surfactant-based, emulsion and oil-based products. With a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing with the specific formulation.
  • Contact with cosmetics and food – the set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle alone holds a food-contact certification; the set with the flip-top cap as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
  • Labelling – self-adhesive labels are applied to the bottle wall. The dimensions needed for label design are listed in the bottle parameters.
  • Alternative closure – closures with the same neck type (listed in the parameters) and other ready-made combinations are available from Handymade. With your own combination, the seal and dispensing must be verified again.
  • Recycling – both the bottle and cap are plastic and should be placed in the sorted plastics collection once empty.

Do not fill the bottle with hot material, and do not sterilise it by boiling or in an oven. PET deforms at high temperatures and the neck may then no longer seal with the cap.

Frequently asked questions

What products is the 250 ml plastic bottle with flip-top cap suitable for?
It is suitable for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products dispensed into the palm: shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, conditioners, body lotions and oils. The opening in the cap is small, so dispensing is economical and easy to control. For solid creams, butters and balms, a jar or pot from which the contents are scooped out is more suitable.
Does the blue plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Partially – the blue tint reduces some light, but does not provide complete protection. Products with sensitive ingredients, such as plant oils prone to oxidation, essential oils or natural colorants, should be kept out of direct sunlight. For very sensitive formulations, we recommend verifying stability by testing in this packaging.
Can a warm product be filled into a PET bottle with a flip-top cap?
Hot products should not be filled into PET bottles, as the material deforms at high temperatures. Emulsions and gels manufactured hot should first be left to cool and filled when lukewarm or at room temperature. After filling with a warmer product, it is advisable to leave the bottle open for a moment to prevent moisture from condensing under the cap.
Is the plastic bottle with flip-top cap suitable for food?
As a set, no – this packaging is intended for cosmetic products. The bottle alone holds a food-contact certification; the flip-top cap is declared only for contact with cosmetics. For syrups, oils or other food products, a combination in which both the bottle and the closure carry a food-contact certification must be used.
Can the plastic bottle with flip-top cap be reused?
Yes, the bottle and cap can be washed and refilled after emptying. Before the next filling, wash the packaging with warm water and detergent, disinfect and allow to dry completely. Pay particular attention to the opening and the cap lid, where product residue lingers longest. A scratched or deformed bottle is best replaced.
