A brown plastic bottle with a matte white flip-top cap is a ready-made set for liquid and medium-viscosity cosmetic products dispensed directly into the palm or onto a cotton pad. The brown PET colouring limits light exposure to the contents, which helps with formulations containing vegetable oils, extracts, or light-sensitive fragrances. The bottle is lightweight, making it suitable for the bathroom, shower, and travel.

With a nominal volume of 150 ml, it is suitable for shampoos, shower gels, body lotions, and oils. The cap opens with one hand and stays attached to the bottle, so it cannot be lost during use.

Which products is the set suitable for

Rinse-off shower products – shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, and conditioners are dispensed by gently squeezing the bottle.
Body lotions and thinner emulsions – these pass through the cap opening as long as the emulsion flows freely.
Oils and oil blends – massage, body, or hair oils are dispensed drop by drop or in a thin stream.
Water-based products – toners and micellar waters are poured onto a cotton pad by tilting the bottle; thin contents flow out quickly.

Thick creams, butters, and balms are not suitable for this container, as they cannot pass through the narrow cap opening. A jar is the appropriate choice for those.

How the flip-top cap dispenses and closes

The flip-top cap has a hinged lid with a small dispensing opening. When snapped shut, the lid closes the opening, so the bottle is used without unscrewing the cap. The amount dispensed is controlled by tilting and pressing the bottle wall. PET is firmer than soft plastics, so the bottle requires only moderate pressure to squeeze.

When working with your own formulation, we recommend testing the dispensing on one filled bottle. A product that is too thick will be difficult to push out of a PET bottle; one that is too thin may flow out faster than is comfortable during use.

For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing, and behaviour of the container with the specific formulation.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference serves as a buffer for the cap and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle may force contents out around the cap when closing or when exposed to heat.

What to know before filling

Before filling for the first time, wash both the bottle and the cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely.

PET cannot withstand hot fill. Fill only after the contents have cooled, as a warm mass can deform the bottle. Do not use boiling water or heat sterilisation for disinfection.

Contact with cosmetics – both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is intended for cosmetic use.
Labelling – the dimensions needed to design a label are listed in the specifications. Degrease the surface before applying the label so it adheres even in a humid environment.
Recycling – the empty bottle and cap belong in sorted plastic waste collection.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown plastic bottle protect the contents from light?

Yes, the brown PET colouring transmits less light than clear plastic. This limits the changes that light causes in vegetable oils, extracts, and fragrances. It is not, however, complete protection. Do not leave the finished product in direct sunlight for extended periods, especially if it contains light-sensitive ingredients.

How thick can products be to dispense through the flip-top cap?

The flip-top cap is suitable for products that flow freely: shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, body lotions, oils, and toners. Thick creams, butters, and balms will not pass through the narrow dispensing opening, or can only be forced through with great difficulty. For borderline viscosities, we recommend testing dispensing on one filled bottle.

Is the brown PET bottle suitable for oils and products with essential oils?

Yes, the PET bottle is suitable for vegetable oils, oil blends, and cosmetics with standard-use levels of essential oils and fragrances. Undiluted essential oils and aggressive solvents can, however, degrade the plastic, so these should not be filled into it. For higher concentrations of essential oils or alcohol, it is advisable to verify the container's behaviour with the specific formulation.

Can the plastic bottle with a flip-top cap be reused?

Yes, both the bottle and the cap can be refilled after thorough cleaning. Wash with lukewarm water and a cleaning agent, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. For the cap, be sure to also clean the dispensing opening and the area under the lid, where product residue tends to accumulate.

Can the brown PET bottle be filled with a product that is still warm?

No, only cooled contents should be filled into a PET bottle. A warm mass can deform the bottle wall. Emulsions and gels prepared hot should therefore be allowed to cool to room temperature before filling.
