Product description

A clear round plastic bottle with a nominal volume of 500 ml and a black moulded flip top cap with a 28/410 neck finish form a ready-to-use set for products dispensed one-handed in small amounts – shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, body lotions, liquid soaps, or massage and bath oils. The bottle and cap are matched and ready for immediate filling, eliminating the need to search for a compatible cap for the neck.

The clear body of the bottle shows the colour of the contents and how much product remains, which is practical for clear gels and coloured shower products alike. The black cap creates a clean contrast with the clear bottle that works well with a label in any colour. The larger volume makes this set a suitable package for everyday bathroom products, family-size quantities, and smaller manufacturers looking for a uniform container.

Key features of the set

  • Flip top cap – the hinged lid with a dispensing opening can be opened with one hand, which is appreciated particularly for products used in the shower or at the bath. When the bottle is squeezed, the contents flow out in a controlled manner, and when the lid snaps shut the opening is sealed.
  • Lightweight and shatter-proof packaging – plastic withstands a drop on tiles, does not weigh down a shipment, and is suitable for the humid bathroom environment where glass would pose a risk.
  • Clear wall – shows the contents, their colour, any shimmer or dispersed particles, and makes it easy to check the remaining quantity.
  • Rounded shape – provides a secure grip in a wet hand and returns to its original shape after squeezing, which is important for smooth dispensing of thicker gels and lotions.
  • Declared suitability for cosmetics – the bottle and cap are individually and as a set suitable for contact with cosmetic products, based on the technical documentation for the packaging.

Suitable products for this set

The flip top cap works best with liquid to medium-viscosity formulations that can be squeezed out of the bottle with light pressure. These typically include shower gels, shampoos, rinse-out conditioners, liquid hand soaps, body lotions and lighter body creams, massage oils, and bath oils. Watery products such as tonics and facial waters dispense poorly, as they flow too quickly once the lid is open – a spray cap or pump is more suitable for those.

For thick creams and butters, on the other hand, the product may not push through the dispensing opening or may settle in the neck. A jar or a pump bottle is a better choice for such textures. A useful rule of thumb is whether the product flows on its own when the bottle is tilted – if it does, a flip top will handle it.

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. The bottle itself holds a separate certificate for direct food contact, but the cap does not, so the complete bottle + cap assembly is not recommended for food use.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the fill volume the container is designed for in normal use, in this case 500 ml. Total brim-full volume is the physical capacity of the bottle up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference between them provides headspace for the cap, for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, and for the air pocket that allows the bottle to be squeezed and spring back. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – an overfilled bottle is difficult to dispense from and may squirt contents on the first squeeze.

With thicker gels and lotions, leave the filled bottle to rest for a moment after filling so that air bubbles can rise to the surface, and then attach the cap. This prevents spattering on the first dispense and stops product from settling in the neck.

What to know before filling

Before the first fill, we recommend washing the bottle and cap with warm water, optionally sanitising with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing them to dry completely. Residual water in the container could interfere with the preservation of water-based formulations. Plastic is sensitive to elevated temperatures, so the bottle should not be filled with hot product – allow emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature before filling.

For products with a higher proportion of essential oils, solvents, or alcohol, it is advisable to test the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation – some ingredients may soften, cloud, or absorb the scent of the plastic over time. It is also worth checking the seal of the cap after leaving the bottle on its side for a few days if you plan to ship it.

The flip top lid is not a transport closure with a safety lock. When shipping filled bottles, we recommend securing the lid with tape or shrink film to prevent it from opening accidentally during transit.

Caps with the same neck type listed in the specifications, and other ready-made combinations, are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing behaviour, and compatibility of the packaging with the specific formulation. Both the bottle and cap are plastic, and once emptied and rinsed they belong in the separated plastic waste stream.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 500 ml plastic bottle with a flip top cap suitable for shower gel and shampoo?
Yes, shower gels and shampoos are typical products for this set. The flip top lid opens with one hand even in the shower, and a medium-viscosity gel can be dispensed comfortably by squeezing the bottle. The clear wall also shows the colour and remaining quantity of the product, which is practical for bathroom products.
Can the 500 ml plastic bottle with a flip top cap be used for food products, such as oil or syrup?
The set as a whole is not recommended for food use. The bottle itself holds a separate certificate for direct food contact, but the black flip top cap does not. The complete bottle + cap assembly is therefore intended for cosmetic products, for which both components carry the relevant declaration.
How should the 500 ml plastic bottle be filled and how much product does it hold?
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume of 500 ml, not to the brim. The headspace above the fill level is a reserve for the cap, for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, and for the air that allows the bottle to be squeezed and dispensed. An overfilled bottle is hard to squeeze and may squirt contents on the first use.
Is the 28/410 flip top cap suitable for thick creams or butters?
A flip top is not suitable for thick creams or butters. Only products that flow on their own when the bottle is tilted will push through the dispensing opening – gels, lotions, oils, and light creams. Thicker textures either stay in the neck or dispense in uneven spurts. A jar or pump bottle is a better choice for those.
How is the clear plastic bottle cleaned and can it be reused?
Yes, once emptied, both the bottle and cap can be washed and reused. The recommended process is washing with warm water and a cleaning agent, thorough rinsing, sanitising with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and complete drying before the next fill. The flip top lid also needs cleaning inside the dispensing opening, where product residue tends to accumulate.
Can the 500 ml plastic bottle handle products with essential oils?
At the typical usage levels of essential oils in shower gels, shampoos, and lotions, the packaging generally performs well. However, with a high proportion of essential oils, solvents, or alcohol, it is advisable to test the behaviour of the plastic with the specific formulation – some ingredients may soften, cloud, or absorb the scent of the plastic over time. A trial fill over several weeks will show whether the combination is stable.
