Product description

A clear PET bottle with a volume of 100 ml and an aluminium screw cap makes ready-to-use packaging for liquid and thin cosmetic products that are dispensed by pouring. The clear plastic shows both the colour and the level of the contents, and the material is lightweight and does not shatter when dropped, so the bottle is suitable for travel, for the bathroom and for customer samples. The silver aluminium cap with a 24/410 thread closes the bottle without a dispensing element and sets it apart visually from bottles with ordinary plastic closures.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not intended for food packaging.

What it is suitable for

  • Body and massage oils – thin oils pour smoothly from the 24/410 neck, and the clear wall shows the colour of the oil and how much of it is left.
  • Hydrosols and toners – water-based products applied with a cotton pad or into the palm. If you want to spray the contents, choose a sprayer with the same thread instead of the cap.
  • Make-up removers and micellar waters – simply tilt the bottle, as the cap only closes it.
  • Shower oils and liquid soaps in smaller packs – the 100 ml volume is suitable for trial batches or gift sets.
  • Diluting and transferring raw materials in the workshop – as technical-grade packaging, it can also be used for a measured water phase, glycerine or solutions without a dispenser.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger and you will find it in the parameters. The difference is the headspace below the neck, which leaves room for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, spray them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in a thin oil causes cloudiness and reduces the stability of the product.

The aluminium cap has an EPE liner inside, which sits on the neck and seals the joint. When carrying the bottle, tighten the cap by hand without force. Aluminium deforms under excessive force and the liner then no longer seals evenly.

Good to know

PET withstands ordinary water-based and oil-based formulations. However, a high proportion of essential oils, concentrated fragrance compositions or solvents may soften or cloud the plastic over time. For such contents, we recommend testing how the packaging behaves on a single bottle before you fill the whole batch.

Hot filling is not suitable for PET. Let emulsions, oils after hot maceration and liquid soaps cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle may become deformed. For the same reason, the packaging must not be boiled or sterilised with hot steam.

Clear plastic does not protect the contents from light. Products with unstable active ingredients, unfiltered vegetable oils or light-sensitive tinctures keep better in amber or blue glass. A clear bottle is suitable where visible contents are an advantage and the product is used up steadily.

After washing and disinfection, the bottle and the cap can be reused. The PET bottle goes in plastic recycling; unscrew the aluminium cap before sorting and put it in metal recycling.

You will find other closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations of the bottle with a pump or a sprayer, in the Handymade range. If you are making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 100 ml plastic bottle with an aluminium cap suitable for oils?
Yes, a PET bottle with an aluminium cap is suitable for body, massage and facial oils. Thin oils pour smoothly from the 24/410 neck and the liner in the cap seals the joint. For oils with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend first testing on a single bottle whether the plastic softens or turns cloudy.
Does a clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. The bottle is suitable for products that are used up steadily and are not harmed by light, for example hydrosols, make-up removers or ordinary body oils. Light-sensitive raw materials and products keep better in amber or blue glass, or in a cardboard box.
How much does the bottle actually hold and why is it not filled to the brim?
The bottle is designed for a nominal 100 ml, and the total brimful volume is larger and is given in the parameters. The difference is the headspace below the neck for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. An overfilled bottle overflows when the cap is screwed on, the contents dry in the thread and the cap then seats less easily. It should therefore be filled only to the nominal volume.
Can a warm product be filled into the plastic bottle?
No, only cooled contents should be filled into a PET bottle. Warm emulsions, heated oils or liquid soaps may deform the plastic and the neck then no longer seals. Let the product cool to room temperature, and only then pour it in and close it with the aluminium cap.
How do I clean the bottle with an aluminium cap before reuse?
Wash the bottle and the cap in warm water with a cleaning product, rinse them, spray them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry upside down. Check whether the liner in the cap is swollen or damaged. If it is, replace the cap. A clean, dry bottle can be refilled repeatedly with the same type of contents.
Is the bottle and cap set also suitable for food?
No, this set is not approved for contact with food. The bottle and the aluminium cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the set is intended for that purpose. For homemade oils, syrups or infusions, choose packaging that has a food-contact certificate stated in the parameters.
