Product description

This amber glass medicine bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and a matte silver dropper is used for filling and dispensing liquid cosmetic products that are applied drop by drop. Amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so it suits facial oils, oil serums with plant extracts and blends with essential oils. The dropper takes exactly the amount you need, without the rest of the contents coming into contact with your hands.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. In addition, the bottle itself has a certificate for direct contact with food, while the dropper does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetic use.

How the set works

The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and a threaded closure that screws onto the neck of the bottle. The outer shell of the closure has a matte silver metal finish and the bulb is white. To dispense, squeeze the bulb, dip the tube into the contents and release. The contents can then be dropped directly onto the skin, into your palm or into the mixture you are preparing.

The speed of dripping depends on the viscosity of the contents. Thin vegetable oils, oil blends and liquid serums are drawn up easily and drip evenly. Thicker serums and gel textures are drawn up more slowly, and at higher thickness they are difficult to dispense with a dropper. For such formulations, it is worth testing the dispensing before filling a whole batch.

The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish. You can find other closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations of the bottle with a different closure, in the Handymade range. If you combine them yourself, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial and oil serums – contents sensitive to light and oxidation are better protected in amber glass than in clear glass, and the dropper measures out a few drops for a single use.
  • Blends of carrier and essential oils – the 100 ml volume suits massage and body oils that are dispensed into the palm or added to a bath.
  • Hair oils and serums for the ends – small doses applied drop by drop do not weigh the hair down.
  • Cuticle and beard oils – a drop is applied precisely to a small area.
  • Intermediates and active ingredients in production – liquid concentrates and oils that are added to a recipe in a measured amount.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume for which the packaging is intended under normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the tube of the dropper, which is immersed in the contents after screwing on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume. If the bottle were filled to the brim, the contents would be pushed out through the neck when the dropper is fitted.

Before filling a larger batch, fill one bottle up to the nominal volume, fit the dropper and check that the contents do not leak. This tells you the actual filling level for your specific formulation.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the tube or in the bottle would get into anhydrous contents.
  • Glass and heat – pour in the contents only after they have cooled. Cold glass may crack if a hot mixture is poured into it, and heat also strains the bulb and the seal of the dropper.
  • Essential oils and alcohol – the glass tube is resistant to them. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend checking the behaviour of the bulb and the seal during longer contact.
  • Transport – transport bottles with a dropper upright. Do not squeeze the bulb while the bottle is closed, as the contents would be pushed into the closure.
  • Reuse – both the glass and the dropper can be cleaned and refilled. Replace a bulb that has lost its elasticity or changed colour.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of glass. The dropper combines glass, metal, silicone and plastic, so before disposal the glass tube should be separated from the closure with the bulb.

Amber glass slows down the effect of light, but it does not protect the contents from heat. Do not leave filled bottles in direct sunlight or near a heat source.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber glass medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the transmission of light, including the UV component, which speeds up the oxidation of oils and the breakdown of sensitive ingredients. The contents therefore remain more stable than in a clear bottle. The protection applies to light, not to heat. Store filled bottles away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
How much can you actually fill into a 100 ml medicine bottle?
The medicine bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The space above it is left free for the tube of the dropper, which is immersed in the contents after screwing on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle were filled to the brim, the contents would be pushed out through the neck when the dropper is fitted. You can find the total brimful volume in the parameters.
Can you dispense a thick serum or gel with the dropper?
The dropper dispenses thin and medium-thick liquids well, while with thick gel textures the contents are drawn up slowly or not at all. Vegetable oils, oil blends and liquid serums drip evenly. For serums with a higher content of thickener, we recommend testing the dispensing on one bottle before filling a whole batch, or choosing a different closure with the same neck type.
Is the glass medicine bottle with a dropper also suitable for food?
The set as a whole is not approved for contact with food and is intended for cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food, while the dropper does not. If you need packaging for homemade oils, syrups or infusions, choose a bottle with a different closure that has food suitability stated in the parameters.
Can you wash the medicine bottle with a dropper and use it again?
Yes, both the bottle and the dropper can be cleaned and refilled repeatedly. Wash the glass with warm water and a cleaning product and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Rinse the tube of the dropper several times by drawing up and squeezing out clean water, then alcohol, and let it dry. It is advisable to replace a bulb that has lost its elasticity or changed colour.
Which closure fits a medicine bottle with an 18/410 neck finish?
Any closure with an 18/410 neck finish fits the bottle, including other droppers, caps or mini trigger sprayers with this neck type. You can find closures and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you combine them yourself, we recommend checking the tightness and the dispensing with your specific formulation, especially for contents with low viscosity.
