Amber Glass Bottle, Matte Silver White Dropper, 50 ml

The amber glass medicine bottle with dropper dispenses oil serums, facial oils and alcohol tinctures drop by drop. The set combines an amber glass bottle with a nominal volume of 50 ml and a dropper with a matte silver collar, so all you need to do is fill it and close it. Amber glass dampens the light that speeds up the oxidation of oils and the breakdown of sensitive active ingredients. For this reason the format is most often chosen for facial and hair serums, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, herbal tinctures or concentrated extracts. With the dropper you take out a few drops without the rest of the contents coming into contact with your hands.

The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The certificate for direct food contact applies only to the glass bottle on its own. The dropper does not have it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

• Oil serums and facial oils – when you dispense a few drops a day, 50 ml is used up before the oil has time to oxidise.
• Blends of essential oils in a carrier oil – amber glass protects against light and the dropper dispenses precisely into the palm or into the bath.
• Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass does not react with ethanol and does not absorb odours, which is an advantage over plastic when refilling repeatedly.
• Samples and test batches – smaller quantities for verifying the stability of a new recipe.

Water-based toners and hydrosols are better dispensed with a sprayer, as a dropper is less suitable for them. Thick creams and balms cannot be drawn up through a glass tube at all.

How the set works

The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish. The dropper screws onto it. The aluminium collar in a matte silver finish holds the inner plastic thread, which carries the silicone bulb and the glass tube. Squeezing the bulb draws up the contents, and releasing it dispenses them drop by drop. The tube is made of glass, so it withstands contents with a higher proportion of essential oils or ethanol, which could damage a plastic tube over time.

The nominal volume of the bottle is 50 ml, that is, the volume the packaging is intended for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger, and you can find the exact value in the parameters. The difference is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which takes up part of the space once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. It should therefore be filled to the nominal volume.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in an oil serum causes cloudiness and, without preservation, can be a source of microbial contamination.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Let hot contents cool to at least room temperature before filling, and do not rinse the bottle alternately with hot and cold water.

The silicone bulb is durable. However, with contents containing a high proportion of essential oils or with concentrated tinctures, check after a few weeks whether it is softening or taking on the scent. If suction worsens after longer use, it is enough to replace the dropper, and the bottle can continue to be used.

You can use the bottle repeatedly. Once it is empty, wash it with warm water and a cleaning product, rinse it with ethanol and let it dry. When changing the contents, for example from a tincture to an oil, clean the tube and the bulb thoroughly as well, otherwise scents and residues will be carried over.
